One of the cheapest homeless shelters in Victorian London charged four pennies to sleep in a coffin. Which was... still better than sleeping upright against a rope? — Jordan / Lynn
If he was being completely honest, the situation didn't look good, but Sylvano was not in the habit of being completely honest about anything. No reason to start now.

Sunday December 14th, 1895 — Great Hall, Hogwarts

Poppy MacFusty
It was ten days until Christmas Eve. Poppy was counting down the days until the winter break started. She missed her family terribly, even more so since the scare of the Irvingly mist, and hadn't seen them since the start of term. Though she wouldn't be going home to her own bed, she knew that her parents would still ensure she and her brothers had a good holiday.

Poppy was still sitting at the Ravenclaw table in the Great Hall after breakfast, quietly watching as a few of the professors rolled out the Christmas decorations. There was quite a bit to be done, and even a ghost had gotten involved. Well, ghosts, plural. At first it had been just the Fat Friar, but soon enough there was a gaggle of joyful (but unhelpful, given their non-corporeal state) ghosts giving their unsolicited opinions on what should go where. The professors hadn't seemed overly thrilled with their assistance and suggested they make their rounds caroling about the castle instead. This seemed to work for the time being. Poppy was rather impressed with the maneuver that allowed the professors to focus on levitating the ornaments and tinsel up and around the twelve evergreen trees that had been brought in.

She thought that they were doing a rather nice job of it, not that she had any expertise in decorating for Yuletide. The Great Hall would look very pretty tonight in the firelight. That thought was interrupted by a high-pitched screech and blur of obnoxious color as Peeves flung himself into the room, a stack of wreaths in his arms (where he'd gotten them, Poppy had no idea), rattled off some poem about helping the professors decorate, and then began hurling one wreath after another at the evergreens.

What had once been a peaceful and cozy morning quickly turned into chaos as the poltergeist was shouted at. Ornaments and tinsel fell to the stone floor, the former shattering upon impact. This only seemed to encourage Peeves (because of course it did), because then he started prattling on about how he was simply arranging a "family reunion" for the evergreen family. Poppy thought it a great time to slip away before Peeves caught sight of her. Ever since her run-in with him when Ignacio Sidonia had come to her rescue, his efforts to terrorize her had seemed to double.

Just as she swung her legs over the bench and made to stand, Peeves caught sight of her and began throwing fistfuls of humbug at her head, the hard peppermint candies hurting enough that she yelped and flung her arms over her head for protection.

Her birthday was coming, soon the little girl would be twelve, and more importantly that very day would also mark the rebirth of the light from solstice. It was an exciting time and the fairly placid Alys was just a bit more bubbly than usual. Even Christmas as affecting her, her family didn't celebrate it, but surrounded by so many who did, it was impossible for the seer not to be a little entranced by the mood in the air.

She too had been helping with the decorations but not at the table. It was hard not to notice the form of peeves burst in to the hall bedecked with wreaths and all manner of other things. She didnt get ghosts, they didnt quite fit into he understanding of the afterlife, but there was enough room for interpretation in the scripts that it wasn't impossible for the world's to connect in places such as this.

Poor Poppy had been singled out for abuse by the spirit, she liked miss Macfusty, and seeing someone bullying her friend annoyed her, even made her angry. And that wasnt a feeling that Alys ever usually felt.

"L'khi rakhok, ru'ach akhz'rit. Ani koré b'sh'mo shel Metatron l'hashivékh el m'kom ha-shalom shelakh." she muttered in prayer as she walked over towards Peeves and Poppy while touching her hand to her pendant. The prayer was not written for this exact situation, but she felt it was still appropriate.

Needless to say it didnt work.

She was rewards by a humbug to her forehead that left a little red mark. Now she was cross.

The redhead squealed again as a fresh fistful of candies rained down on her, entirely unaware that Alys had tried to come to her rescue. She sorely regretted not learning that spell Mr. Sidonia had used to get the poltergeist to leave them alone that one day on the stairs. The professors had yet to notice this end of the chaos, too wrapped up in whatever mess he’d left in his wake just moments before. So she was on her own (or so she thought) when she tried to make a mad dash for it, arms over her head and chin ducked to get as far as away as quickly as possible. And then she collided with another person with a solid thwunk.
