Taesu’s response about never turning back for a hug was so him that it almost hurt. Jin could understand the instinct, but he’d taken the chance once and it had turned out better than he expected. It ached at him that Taesu felt he might never be able to do the same but, one battle at a time he supposed. The fact that his brother hadn’t kicked him for his nudging efforts was a win for now. Jin smiled softly to himself and stayed there, warm. (Even if his little prompt to be less formal was ignored; again.)
At mention of making promises he couldn’t keep, Jin laughed. It surprised him a bit that such a response could be funny; it should have hurt, or at least annoyed him that Taesu didn’t believe he’d be there even if all this fell apart. But then again, the likelihood was so slim that he wasn’t sure it even really mattered. He would be there for his brothers if the opportunity ever arose. Taesu would see. And if he hadn’t managed to convince his prickly baby brother yet that he cared for him, even after all these years of saying and proving it time and again, then Jin figured another argument over the fact now wasn’t going to do them any good. Or win him any more favors. (He was too well pleased with having won the battle under the table to care and maybe he also wasn’t in a mood to ruin it.)
He smiled again, this time more broadly at the outright compliment Taesu managed to give him. And without being forced into it, either. (It wasn't really true, but he wouldn't say that.) Instead, Jin gave a small nod, debating the merits of teasing, but in the end he’d decided only to chirp that he loved his brother. Because he did. And Taesu responded just about how Jin expected. Pink in the face, flustered, and a little choked up. He was incredibly adorable like that and Jin honestly couldn’t imagine how everyone (much less anyone) could manage to keep from falling in love with him— and not just superficially. But really and truly— with the Taesu that existed deep inside. He was perfect, and nobody would change Jin’s mind about that, ever.
He gave another small laugh and nodded chirping “geurae!” as he went. There would never be words enough to express how he felt, or force Taesu to believe him. But soft moments like this that were just theirs, which Jin could accumulate over the years like beads on a string, would eventually prove his point. Or so he hoped.
He took a bite of Taesu’s food on his own this time and nearly choked on it as he felt his brother hook their ankles. Eyes wide, Jin looked up quickly. Taesu’s face had softened, even if he was still blushing, and Jin felt himself melt internally. "I do mean it,” he repeated quietly, without a single hint of a tease this time. “Saranghae, Taesu-ah, jjinjja. And I’m glad you came to live with us.” His soft expression broke into a smug little grin. “My life would be so much more boring without you here to babysit and feed, anyway.” And as if to make a point, Jin offered him another bite off the chopsticks and stuck his tongue out like the true older brother he was.

* Geurae = you're right, yes, ok, an agreement • saranghae = i love you, informal affectionate • jjinja = really
