    Lorcan Byrne vs. Annabelle Scrimgeour

    Another mixed duel. How far they had come in only a few short years, though Astrid could not help but wonder if the young ladies taking part weren’t doing so to be sensational. After all, they could not all be Zelda Fisk!

    Dutifully, the witch reviewed the tournament’s rules before instructing Mr. Byrne to begin.

    How funny! Come to a duelling tournament in Hogsmeade, only to be up against a familiar face from the hospital in London! Not terribly familiar a face - Miss Scrimgeour was relatively new to St. Mungo's - but certainly a pretty one. One he ought to get to know better, really.

    Shooting spells at her did not seem the most straightforward way to do this, but Lorcan offered her his most charming bow nonetheless, and cast a Jelly-Fingers jinx in the hopes she would simply fumble her wand.

    Bella was not at all sure how she would compete in an actual dueling competition. These were with real people—real adults—rather than half-competent children who were designated to not use anything that could potentially harm their opponents. She'd seen some of the former and current aurors dueling in a competition one summer, and one had ended up injured!

    She did imagine that Mr. Lorcan Byre, one of the hospital's mediwizards, would be less harmful, but her insecurities still managed to cause her to worry up until the last moment. When he cast his spell, Bella let out a tiny (and luckily hushed) squeak and cast her shield charm. Practical study of defensive magic had never been her forte despite her skills with book work.
    @Lorcan Byrne

    Miss Scrimgeour did not seem particularly confident, but her shield charm was a good one. Astrid declared her the winner of the first round, and instructed her to begin the second.

    That was... underwhelming. Her shield charm had held, and nothing had happened. She'd been half-expecting his charm to blow her to bits; perhaps she'd been a little silly with her overreaction. After taking a quick moment to compose herself, Bella raised her (still trembling) wand hand and, hoping to cast a jet of water towards of her opponent, said: "Aqua erecto!"
    @Lorcan Byrne

    He may have lost the first round, but Lorcan did not lose any of his cheerfulness. He hadn't gotten injured, so. That was a plus. Maybe it even looked as though he were being gallant!

    He had cast an encouraging smile her way before she attempted her next spell (maybe these efforts of his would be better spent towards the judge rather than his opponent?); now that she had, Lorcan flicked his wand to hopefully lessen the jet of water, once it reached a certain point, to the barest mist - the kind that carried more iridescence than moisture.
