- A freckled, rectangular, face with high cheekbones, aquiline nose and thick brows framing dark brown eyes.
- His fashion choices are dictated by his upbringing and what is appropriate in society. Often the two clash and he ends up in an understated suit, carrying a dash or two of cemetery ash, fur and some sort of chalky paint.
The second son of a Middle Class Halfblood whose own witch mother died in childbirth, his mother grew up seeking something she didn’t understand so it was easy to slip into a druidic lifestyle. Her talent was not unlike their own form of magic and eventually she found her own style and study – becoming a hedge witch with a reputation for success. Her decision carried her down to the Lower Class, though it never stopped the other classes from visiting her.
1854-1869 - It wasn’t until she gave birth, unmarried, that her place in the lower class was solidified - first came Delphine’s older half-brother - and a few years after him, Delphine was born. From their birth she taught them what she knew, and when they showed the same true magical talent as toddlers she let them choose their own path.
Their lives were made on meager funds, as most of their mothers business was done with traded food and household items in return for her crafts. Delphine’s brother took after their mother with a too-large heart that hung from their sleeves, and when he turned eleven first and Hogwart’s came into the picture – he knew only one of them would be able to go. So he chose to take his own path, and followed a family of fellow practitioners travelling to Northern Europe.
1870-1875 - Delphine Goes to Hogwart’s, is sorted into Gryffindor, and finds that the magic he knows and the magic they teach are very different. In fifth year he is awarded Prefect status, and achieves good O.W.Ls. Believing he is finished with his education he returns home to continue his preferred craft, Voodoo, to find that his mother has happily worked herself raw and secured him a sponsor based on their combined achievements – and something else entirely. He sees his brother briefly over the summer.
1876-1877 – Seventh year, his studies are going well and the Queen goes and thumbs down magic. His mother is too far removed from populated areas and the county’s disbelief in her work that she isn’t too badly affected before the majority of Muggles have their memories of magic Obliviated. With most magic folk exiled to Hogsmeade her crafts become more sought after.
1877-1880 – Delphine returns home, educated and ready to continue what he’d been studying at home all along, Vodou. .
1880-1886 – Delphine joins the Department of Mysteries and throws himself into his work. Cutting his Unspeakable teeth under the current Minister of Magic during Urquarts last years in the Dpt-oM. He meets his brother again while travelling for work, and a few months later while performing a ritual something goes drastically wrong. It’s only thanks to his brother that Delphine survives, but his brother is permanently scarred and inexplicably cannot perform with his magic. Then when Claudius Lestrange vacates the same Assistant Head position, Delphine is quick to apply. He hears no new of his brother.
March 1887 – After two separate applications Delphine is finally promoted to Department of Mysteries Assistant Head, he still hasn't heard from his brother.
Personality: Sorted into Gryffindor, Delphine is more like the less practical version of a Hufflepuff. Loyal and naturally honest (he does occasionally struggle with the very nature of being an ‘Unspeakable’.) Thinks he’s got great morals but they don’t have him. A wonderer. A pincushion.
Sample Roleplay Post:
Delphines face lifted from his close study of a small totem bag his mother was sewing to glance at the door. The thick wood dulled the sound of knocking, but the two doxy's that writhed in their small cage - a gift he had brought - near swallowed the sound until their unexpected guest knocked again.
"Seems t'be someone at the door," he called, leaning back in his chair to see her through the kitchen doorway. She glanced back at him, in one instant surprised and in the next smiling and patting down her apron. "Keep them there, ask them what they want, do they need a blanket." No one should have been coming today, he wondered as he rose, pushing the loosely plaited blanket from his knees. It was Sunday morning. "Good Morning, how can I help you-" sweeping the door open, the breeze caught the scent of drying herbs and fire ash and lifted it through the room. He coughed, staring down for a moment before he moved a leg aside to let them in. Though they were well dressed for the weather it was cold outside.
Light footed no matter her size his mother swept into the room, he heard a choking sound (because of the air?) and her walk ended with the characteristic stomp of a frustrated mother. Their guests' dark-rimmed eyes shot towards the noise and they froze until they recognised her. "Y'startled them," he admonished with his typical smile, waving his hand to tell them to go back to what they were doing.
"You let them in--"
"They forced their way in," he gestured again across the room, lips tweaking in a grin as their clucking guest pecked the cage the doxies were in and got a spiny finger up the nostril in response.
