Standing at a rather petite height of four feet, eight and a half inches tall, tiny in comparison to her brother, Joanna's fine features, wide-set green-grey eyes, soft hair like pale yellow silk, and almost unusually pale skin make her look more like a fragile doll than much anything else. In fact, she has a couple of scars from a clumsy incident when she was small and fell into her mother's dressing mirror. With an intense preference for jewel-hued Muggle gowns, Joanna chafes at the plain robes of school, but she embellishes where she may - typically in things to do with her hair. And oh, how elaborate her hairstyles can get. She is steadfastly right-handed, and her voice is almost musical even in speech. She is just an octave shy of a true soprano range.
Joanna is born on a content summer's day, a relatively quiet newborn, with fine hair that was, once she's cleaned up, compared to a fine silver. As the second daughter, and fifth child, there aren't many expectations of her, save that she'll be a dutiful daughter and, one day, a good wife and mother.
Matthew is born; Joanna takes little interest in her brother, aside from a short period of worry that she'll be overshadowed by the new baby. Not long after this period, she finds herself drawn closer to Isaiah. There seems to be an almost odd connection between the two.
Joseph is born; Joanna barely reacts to this. But, one day, close to the end of the year, she steals into her mother's dressing room. Practicing her gentle walk, pretending to be side-by-side with an imagined governess. Joanna trips over her own feet and tumbles, shoulder-first, into her mother's dressing mirror. Thankfully, her stitches do not get infected.
Early in the year, the stitches are removed, leaving a fine smattering of scars over her shoulder, upper back, arm, and one at the hairline at the base of her skull. Her mother begins to take special attention in her lessons of being lady-like, almost never letting her out of sight.
After an incident that Elsa keeps from Joanna, Isaiah vanishes from her life, seemingly never to be heard from again. Her lessons become more intense, and more strict.
Joanna decides that she wants have cake for her tenth birthday - and for her brother to come home. When she's told, in no uncertain terms, that Isaiah will not be coming home, there is a...reaction. Little, odd things had happened around her, more and more frequently since Isaiah's disappearance, but this is far beyond things such as an uncanny ability to remember where her mother had put something six weeks ago. This was more volatile - a sort of explosion of gale-force winds, with petite Joanna at its epicenter, not a hair out of place. Needless to say, Willis's reaction is far from accepting. Elsa writes a hasty letter to her brother, and not long after the paper's departure, the girl is transported at the hands of the nanny to her uncle Ulysses's home, and reunited with her brother.
After a year's worth of tales from Uncle Ulysses, Joanna receives her Hogwarts letter, purchases her first wand, a faithful piece of dogwood and unicorn, and rides the Hogwarts Express. She finds herself sorted into Hufflepuff, the badger's den. She tries to send her mother a letter, but a response is never received.
Entering into her third year, Joanna elects to take Music, Ancient Runes, and Astronomy as her electives. She plays piano and sings, her vocal range just shy of being a proper soprano.
In her fourth year now, Joanna spends most of her otherwise unoccupied time in the music room, playing piano and letting her voice soar.
Cheerful, modest, stable, dutiful, shallow, slow to anger
