Edward shares the dark, somewhat unruly hair of his brothers, which he often keeps long. His eyes are his most distinguishing feature: they are wide and an almost unnaturally intense green hue. He stands at a decidedly above-average five feet, eleven inches, with a somewhat muscular build, though not too much so, considering his profession. He dresses well enough for a man of his station, but often sticks to simpler styles as fashion often baffles him. He is right handed.
Childhood | Edward is the first son of John and Helena Macmillan, and is the apple of his parents’ eye. He is a somewhat fussy baby who would only calm down for the nanny for the first few years of his life, though by the time he turns five he comes to utterly adore his father. Charles and Howard follow soon in quick succession, though Edward and Charles never got on particularly well, as Charles was kind of a shit. Howard was much more tolerable, and when he passes away in 1864, Edward is devastated. He never becomes particularly fond of Elmer or Lawrence due to the age gap, and Lawrence’s passing is largely overshadowed by the promise of Hogwarts the following year.
Hogwarts | Edward receives his Hogwarts letter in 1869, and is sent off to school. He is sorted into Gryffindor, and soon makes friends among his roommates, especially Gawain Carmichael. He has never been particularly purist, and doesn’t think twice about the fact that his best friend is a halfblood, though he largely sticks to the upper class circles.
He is studious and hardworking, and wants more than anything to make his parents proud of him. As a result, he is perhaps not as rambunctious and daring as some of his housemates, but instead exhibits a chivalric and romantic streak, much like his father. Ned becomes infatuated with a girl in his year, but nothing comes of it, as he knows he is far too young to make a good husband. In 1876, he graduates, and begins interning in the Spell Damage ward at St. Mungo’s. Healing was a natural choice for Ned, as he has always been kindhearted and compassionate towards others, almost to a fault.
Adulthood | Once his internship is up in 1877, he is promoted to a full-fledged Spell Damage Healer. Ned finds his work fulfilling, and never dreams of changing his mind. After taking a few years to get established, however, he purchases a home in Hogsmeade and transfers to the Spell Damage ward at Hogsmeade Hospital in 1881, where he is reunited with Gawain, and begins thinking about taking a wife, though he has no intention of settling for a marriage of convenience.
In late 1882, he is betrothed to Ellory Pendergast. Though the romantic in him had always hoped for a love match, he tries to make the best of the situation, and does his best to get to know his betrothed and perhaps find some fondness for her. In the process, however, his letters become entirely too familiar, and Mrs. Pendergast dissolves the betrothal. Edward is mortified, and does his best to put the mishap out of his mind as he devotes himself further to work.
In 1883, after being a healer for seven years, he is promoted to Assistant Head of the Spell Damage Ward, which demands even more of his time. Though he himself is not stricken by the plague or the fire, he devotes much of his time in 1884 to healing the victims of the disastrous summer. Now that 1885 is here, he decides that he has perhaps grown enough to seek a wife once more, though he is perpetually overcautious not to repeat his past mistakes.
Chivalrous. Romantic. Compassionate. Dutiful. Serious. Sociable.
