Anne,

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write! Things have been busy. The voyage was enjoyable, not as long as I thought and I got my first assignment for rotation today! I'll be starting in the water, which is a little terrifying, but exciting. The water here so warm and clear, so unlike the ocean near home. I've never done a lot of reading on magical marine creatures, but my mentor, Carolina, lent me a book I plan to devour tonight and take notes for my field journal. Feels like school, but not really? It's strange. Maybe I'll learn some tricks to finally face off with my nemesis the giant squid.

How's the training going? Almost done with year two? It's going by so fast! It feels surreal to be an adult, but like almost a real adult, with a real occupation, where we have responsibilities.

Speaking of, I have to practice my bubbldhead charm before bed. Send me good news!
Fondly,
Sloane

Sloane,

Do not worry at all! I know that working often means some difficulty with the little things. It sounds like you're having a wonderful time, though! How far can you see into the water? I've heard people talk about water that was a hundred metres deep, yet seemed about as shallow as a puddle. You'll have to tell me all about those marine creatures.

Training's been alright--I'm still nervous that they'll decide to cut me! And I have to find a mentor, soon. In terms of good news, the only thing that I have to offer is that I'm still in the program and that (in my own ever-humble opinion) none of the boys are outperforming me. At least not by too much.

Are you actually going to go under the water, or just preparing for grindylow attacks? Do they even have grindylow where you are?
Best regards,
Anne

Anne,

The water is so clear, even when it's deep, it doesn't quite feel like it. I'm not sure exactly, we stay in the shallows for now, but we'll be doing full diving once we're all properly trained on some of the equipment and spells we use! I'm a little nervous, but I think it's going to be good for me. It's definitely something different! I'll send you more information once we get going in earnest.

I'm glad to hear things are still going well. Don't let Thornton gain any ground, you're twice the auror he'll ever be!
Fondly,
Sloane

Sloane,

I wish you luck with the water!

Do you ever wish some of this was a little less complex? I find myself wondering when things will get as easy as they appear to be for those who are older than us. Sometimes it seems that my instructors are on top of everything, and I just end up thinking about how they got there. Other than loads of practice and studying, of course.
Best regards,
Anne

Anne,

Honestly, it's been amazing. Sort of reminds me of flying in a weird way. I think it's the weightlessness and the mobility of it. I haven't flown since the accident and I haven't missed it, until now. It's been eye-opening too, there's so much just in the coral reefs! We're almost done with all of the training, so hopefully we'll be able to do more soon. I want to actually do some diving.

I know what you mean, especially after losing a whole year, I feel like I'm always a step behind. Fortunately we both seem to have found good instructors to guide us. Some day, when we're their age, we'll be able to look back and know everything made sense in the end. I hope anyway. I would like to make it past forty with all of my limbs in tact!
Fondly,
Sloane
