1885. Emilia is born to Evangeline and Edward Rowle. She is followed shortly after by her twin, Elliott.
New Year’s 1886-87. A blizzard buries Hogsmeade for the better part of a week, and Emilia’s father doesn’t return home in time. His body is found when the snow is cleared several days later. Emilia, for her part, has no memory of him, and her mother’s opinion is… less than favorable.
1887-1890. The most notable things that happen during this time is that both of her older half-sisters marry and move out of the house, and her mother seems exceptionally happy. Emilia isn’t sure if these things are related, but will eventually realize that the absence of anything that reminds Evangeline Rowle of her late husband will make the woman happier by default. Emilia does once overhear her mother say she’d burn the house down if it wasn’t technically Elliott’s. She’s mostly sure Evangeline wasn’t being literal. Mostly.
1891. Emilia’s first act of magic comes on New Year’s Day, when she decides the doll she received for Christmas needs more frills. The result might have been a little excessive, but at least it’s obvious.
1894-1895. Life is mostly business as usual–except her mother has been spending a lot of time with a man and Emilia doesn’t know how she feels about it yet.
