Hello! This is a CAMP CHARMING event and I am soliciting input on what podcast should be featured. All your options are horror shows because that's my thing.
How this event works: I willget Lady to make a thread in the Discord media channel after the show is picked and will find a generally agreeable time to do a live listen of episodes in the voice channels. You can join the live listen to enjoy my color commentary or to provide your own, or you can listen on your own time and dump your thoughts in the thread. Listening to two or more episodes and participating in the chitchat (live or async) earns you the event participation.
A BRIEF PITCH FOR EACH SHOW:
THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES- is my life. JSims had the first 15 episodes written before he got anyone to pick up the series and they are both excellent standalone horror and very dense in terms of plot hooks and references you don't understand until later, so excellent relisten material. Since the order isn't super important in the beginning I would probably choose (or Discord poll for anyone with opinions) 3-5 episodes from within the first 15 to run as a curated intro to the series. Also if you get hooked and listen to them all you'll understand some of the cryptic thread titles Beanie and I leave for each other and who doesn't want to join an inside joke?
I AM IN ESKEW- is not that long so if there is interest I could do the whole thing. This show is surrealist horror and talks in metaphor a lot (think Susanne Clarke but moreso) so won't be everyone's cup of tea but I've pulled multiple charming plot ideas from it already and think about at least one of the episodes once/week.
Ain't Slayed Nobody- horror ttrpg actual play podcast. They're delightful, they're inclusive (often have they/them characters), it mixes horror and comedy well. They do short arcs as well as longer campaigns so I would choose one of my favorite 3-6 episode stories and run that, which serves as an intro to their subgenre/this group while still having a narrative conclusion we can easily reach.
The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality is another apparently anthology series where the larger narrative emerges over time. Also I think the premise (the podcast is your audio tour guide at a museum) is super neat. I would run a few early episodes as an intro, like Magnus this is a much longer series.
Malevolent- after Magnus Archives this is probably the "big horror podcast" you've heard about, if you've heard about any. Lovecraft setting (1920s, film noir with hints of cosmic horror). I haven't listened to the full thing yet (another much longer one) but also think they do some very clever things early on in the series and this writer/performer/producer (it is ONE GUY) is very, very good.
Although I support Ranked Choice Voting the thread polls don't yet but feel free to choose as many as you like and leave comments below as desired to explain. <3
