Rules
Community Rules
~
  • Although we are set in the Harry Potter universe, Charming supports LGBTQ+ people and stands against the views of its author, particularly those she has expressed in regards to transgender people.

  • All members on Charming must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Please treat others with respect and consideration. After all, roleplaying is supposed to be fun! Please contact a member of staff if you are experiencing conflict with another member and are unable to or uncomfortable with negotiating it on your own—we're happy to help navigate things!

  • Avatars should be sized at 200x300 pixels. Anything put into signatures (including text and buttons) will cut off after hitting the max height of 500px.

  • Your username should be your character's first name and last name with proper capitalization, ex. James Potter. Every character has a different account.

  • Characters can be 'inspired by' characters from other fandoms, books, movies, etc. but cannot be exact replicas. We encourage originality and each character should be well suited to the Harry Potter universe. We do not allow real life persons of history to be played here – all characters should be fictional.

  • We strongly discourage the use of AI in writing or character graphics on Charming. AI is not permitted, full stop, in any on-board challenges.

  • Charming has a private Discord server that members are able to use. After your first character is accepted, you'll receive a link-invite from your assigned buddy. All rules of the board are the same and apply to this Discord server.

  • This site is for mature players. Please be aware that this site has a rating of 333 and includes mature content on sex, drugs, etc. While such content will be clearly marked as Mature, it is permitted, so join and read at your own discretion.
Posts & Activity
~
  • We do not have a word count. Roleplaying is a team activity; we trust our players to write what is necessary for a given situation.

  • Accidental post? Please delete it—you can do this from the account you posted with. The forum will automatically adjust your post count. (This is important for activity check purposes!)

  • Outside of letters/journal entries, posts should be written in third person, past tense.

  • Every character should be posted at least once a month to avoid inactivity and the potential loss of your claims. Activity checks are conducted on the first Sunday of every month by the staff team.

  • Charming has a character limit of 50. However, in the case of repeated deactivations of the same characters or members, the staff may, at their discretion, recommend your number of characters be cut back.

  • If you are going to be absent for more than a few days, post an absence in our absence thread. This is both helpful to any writing partners, and can give you a "pass" in an upcoming activity check, if needed.

  • All IC posts should be labelled. There are selectable buttons upon creating a thread to mark whether the thread is Open [O], Private [P], Read-Only [R], or Mature [M]. The [S] option is See Inside, meaning that a thread is more or less open but with restrictions that are elaborated in an OOC as part of the thread's first post.

  • Any thread that includes graphic subject matter —sexual themes, violence, etc.—should be marked as Mature.

  • Swearing is permitted in thread titles, provided it is not a slur.

  • It is common courtesy to consider "content" or "trigger" warnings for your threads that may have triggering material (a helpful general list is here!) Please find our code for content warnings here, and please chat with your thread partners before adding triggering material to a thread with them (or check their plottage preferences!)
