Dueling Tournament
Welcome to the first dueling tournament of the year! This is also a great opportunity to take this beauty home:

We will be running a
student & faculty tournament this time around. All duels will take place in Hogwarts' Great Hall, with no external spectators. The student tournament will take place on
Saturday, February 9th while the Faculty tournament—no doubt some enterprising older student or another will set up some under-the-table gambling for that one!—will be conducted on
Sunday, February 10th to afford their pupils some February entertainment.
Unfortunately, in all the moves, I've lost my generic duels signup info. Behold, these rules from our fourth ever tournament, edited as much as necessary to make sense in the "modern" age of Charming. I also have an
example duel from the same tournament as well!
IC RULES- All proper decorum must be observed, including bowing or curtsying to ones opponent at the open and close of the match.
- During a duel, there shall be no physical contact of any sort between contestants. Should one contestant require assistance, then the match will be stopped by the official.
- Excessive force must not be used. The purpose of the contest is to display strength and skill; it is not to injure or maim. Likewise, all spells used must be allowed under the law.
- Creativity is encouraged; a match that consists merely of stunning and disarming is not enjoyable for the audience.
When a lady is participating in a contest the spells cast must be non-combative, but rather should be displays of skill and control appropriate for the presence of and use by a lady of breeding. Ladies are encouraged to use spells of ornamental or practical purpose suitable for their gender. Gentlemen competing against ladies will be provided a practice dummy to cast spells on. This rule was quashed like a bug in '86! Huzzah!
OOC RULES- Matches will be moderated by a member of the staff. Follow instructions by the IC moderator regarding who is to post. After both participants have posted once, wait for the moderator to post again before continuing.
- Points will be given by the moderator based on an OOC modified dice roll. While commentary by the official is IC, the scoring is done in the fairest way possible.
- Do not state how your action will end, but rather what is intended. That way, when the point is determined then you can post the results of your actions in a way that fits with the scoring.
- If a participant does not post within three days [72 hours], they will be disqualified and the other participant wins the match.
- Keep all spells age appropriate. A first year could not cast an Unforgivable (although that would get them disqualified anyway). If you are not sure if your character could cast a spell at their age, feel free to ask other members or the staff for opinions.
Players may sign up a maximum of
five participants using the form below. Please sign up by 11:59pm EST on
February 8th.
