Site-Wide Plot 10: The Quidditch World Cup

World Cup Match: Britain vs. Morocco
The results are in (or will be on July 27th): Britain is to face off against Morocco for the Quidditch World Cup!
What do we need to know about Wizarding Morocco and their national quidditch team?
Show
With the Sahara to the south, Spain to the north and the Atlantic on its west coast, Morocco is principally Islamic in culture. Traditional languages are Arabic and indigenous Berber, but many Moroccans also speak French now that the Europeans are taking a colonial interest in North Africa.
As in Britain, there is a wide gap between the richest and poorest. Young wizards and witches are taught separately, with formal education for boys (ranging from dusty village schools to elite high-walled institutions) whilst girls are usually taught at home. There is a strong emphasis on history, herbalism, art and invention; cities are full of intricate Arabic architecture and home to wizarding souks hiding amidst the muggle markets - but these haphazard bazaars can be a maze to navigate, even before the bartering! There is also a still-flourishing illegal trade in exotic magical animals across Morocco.
Life is colourful, and Moroccan wizardwear is richly embroidered djellaba and kaftans, and the most common hat is the fez. Even in wizarding society, alcohol is far less integral to Arab culture than tea: Moroccan mint tea is drunk daily and is almost a ceremony in itself, with it being the male head of the family’s privilege to pour it. When served to guests, it is impolite to refuse it.
Horsemanship still makes for the biggest muggle sporting events, but in recent years Moroccan wizards have taken up quidditch. Although North Africa has its own leagues, they are often influenced by French and Spanish styles of play: fast and flamboyant, and preferring not to have the match stop and start for every little foul. Doesn’t that take all the fun out?

Attending the Match
Attending the match is made affordable to all—though like many things in life, you get what you pay for. Seating can be found in both public and private boxes.
PUBLIC BOXES:
For only a sickle, working class individuals can snag themselves a seat in a box with five long benches, designed to fit seven bodies but ticketed as if they fit eight, are positioned one behind the other without any staging, making the frontmost bench the place to be. These are generally a bit below the level of play, causing a fair amount of neck-craning for those in attendance. The only food present is what's been brought in by spectators, and Merlin help you if you need the toilet.
For a galleon, those of the middle class can buy seat in a box just below or right at the level of play, with five padded benches seating six apiece have been staggered so that, barring a very tall individual, no views will be obscured. Your perks include a vanishing house for individuals to do thier business, and every so often, a scraggly-looking vendor will pop in with sweets for sale.
For four galleons, you can have a seat with other members of the upper class can purchase a seat in one of the plusher boxes, where individual cushioned chair[s] and complementary opera quidditch glasses provide an excellent view of the action. The discreet, plumbed bathroom is an added bonus, as is the small, never-ending spread of sandwiches, cakes, and punch in the corner. These boxes are all at the ideal altitude for viewing the game.
— available group threads —
PRIVATE BOXES:Private boxes are both finite and pricey—more than merely multiplying the ticket cost by 20-30 seats in a box.. There are eight MC-calibre privates and ten UC-calibre ones available on a first come, first served basis. Private boxes are available first come, first served.

Moroccan Medley Educational Scrimmage
In part to expand the global quidditch community and in part to justify a month of festivities, the IQL has organized a scrimmage that intersperses Hogwarts quidditch players with members of the Moroccan national team as an educational opportunity (thoguh some Moroccans will be better teachers than others, one would assume). The match will take place at Sanditon Beach on August 9th; it is played, and will begin OOC that same day. The teams are...
RED TEAM
GREEN TEAM
Anyone interested in participating may post below with the appropriate form. Positions in [brackets] are for Moroccans, while all other positions are open to Hogwarts players. You do not choose your team, Satan does ;)
