RE: April 1891 - Cecily Gallivan - March 27, 2021

A*CAB | REP +5 | Birthday Garden Party

What: Theodore Gallivan’s Birthday Party
Who: hosted by Cecily (and Veronica, but mostly Cee)
Invited are:

  • Upper and middle class people with some ties to Quidditch, or who would reasonably be invited to a Gallivan event.
  • Quidditch players, hence the any class. They’re allowed to a +1 if it’s a wife.
Cost: nothing, but politeness would expect guests to bring a gift.
Where: chuddley stadium, which will be charmed to fit a garden party setting. Weather charms will be in place.
Why: Because it’s Theo’s bday and Cee thinks he secretly wants to celebrate.
When: April 28th
Last year was eventful, so no surprises! Cee is justifying this party by saying it’s good for Quidditch relations and press.

The grassy part of the Stadium will be used, where there will be tents we see at period dramas. One with a small dance floor underneath and one with tables people can sit in groups of 7 (Quidditch reference).

People can totally sneak off to the stands, which I obviously mention if people want to thread anything spicy or scandalous there. birthday sex for example

RE: April 1891 - Roslyn Ross - March 27, 2021

SEE INSIDE | REP 4+ | MASQUERADE BALL

What: Minister's Masquerade
Who: Hosted by the Rosses, for:

  • All UC/MC ministry employees with no major scandal in the last six months
  • Their spouses, unmarried adult children, and siblings residing in the same household with the same caveat
  • WC ministry employees in supervisory positions, as well as their spouses
  • MC members of polite society with reps 7+ and no scandal in the last six months
  • UC individuals with reps of 4+ no major scandal in the last six months
Cost: N/A, but your attire will be moderated by your means. Masks are required for entry.
Where: They've let a ballroom in muggle London, about three blocks from the Ministry offices
Why: It is the duty of the Minister of Magic & his wife to host a ball relatively early in the Season
When: April 23rd
The Minister's Ball is a yearly ado early in the Season, and this year—before a dozen fresh socialites decide to make it overdone as they do each year— it shall be a masquerade!

Upon entry, your character's mask will become affixed to their face until the midnight unmasking. They will pass through a high-ceilinged foyer (with a few chairs and an adjacent cloakroom) into a grand, circular ballroom, the theme of which rotates hourly:
FRENCH GARDEN PARTY
Feel the warm summer breeze and literally smell the roses from 8 o'clock until 9 o'clock

ARABIAN NIGHTS
It's basically the aesthetic from the live action Aladdin from 9 o'clock until 10 o'clock

THE ORIENT
~Exotic floral arrangements, Chinese acrobats, and other trappings adorn this period-appropriate racism from 10 o'clock until 11 o'clock

THE NIGHT SKY
Twinkling orb 'stars' form constellations on a dancefloor largely obscured by darkness from 11 o'clock until midnight.

VENETIAN CARNIVAL
A traditional aesthetic brought in just as we remove our masks at midnight! Will remain until all attendees depart.

Above the ballroom is a grand mezzanine for socialising that lines both the diameter and cuts across the ballroom in an X. It is entirely unaffected by the magical themes below, though the darkness of Night Sky Hour does obscure dancers from view from above. It can be accessed via a narrow staircase to either side of the ballroom entrance, or a larger staircase directly across the room.

Off of the main ballroom are two retiring rooms for each sex. Refreshments are served here as well as on the mezzanine.

Guests will receive small pearl brooches (ladies) and lapel pins (gentlemen) on arrival designed to keep them illuminated during the night phase. They might fall off prior, leaving your character and their actions obscured by the darkness...

Though magic has been employed to orchestrate the evening, it is considered in poor form to actually use magic whilst attending. Arrivals should also be in the muggle fashion (ie, carriages), though London's Destiny Hotel has made it known that attendees are more than welcome to floo or apparate into their lobby and hire their ride from there if coming from ~out of town.

RE: April 1891 - Ophelia Devine - March 27, 2021

ACAB | REP ANY | PLAY

What: The Roses of Brittany theatrical debut
Who: Anyone who buys a ticket is welcome!
Cost: Affordable for MC & UC; general WC could afford tickets to the preview nights April 14-15 instead or a regular ticket if they're Pennyworth WC & want to treat themselves
Where: De Montfault Theater, High Street, Hogsmeade
Why: To be perfectly honest this exists because I needed another paragraph for my Witch Weekly article from January
When: performances April 16th - 25th (no performance on Monday April 19th); previews April 14-15

The middle of April will see the opening of a new play at the de Montfault theater, The Roses of Brittany. The play makes its world debut in Hogsmeade before continuing on to play Europe and America, which might give young women with international suitors some common ground to discuss. Performance quality is good, writing quality is middling, the plot centers around a young man coming of age and wooing a young woman but also there's a war being referenced vaguely that keeps them apart until the final scene. Ends in a sort of bittersweet way but overall its generally light/optimistic in tone while still being a drama.

Guests can mingle in the lobby before the performance begins and there will be two ten-minute intermissions during the evening. Guests who arrive late or who leave the performance during one of the acts will be asked to wait in the lobby until the next appropriate break to be seated.

RE: April 1891 - Elmer Macmillan - March 27, 2021

ACAB | REP 1 | ART SEX PARTY

What: The Life of Zeus - Episode 1
Who: hosted by a rich guy who is known, in the right circles, for his eclectic tastes and sex parties.

Invited will be people who are known to be into this sort of thing and who can be trusted for their discretion. People who come for the first time will be obliviated before they leave, until they earn the host’s trust.
Cost: none, but you’re encouraged to donate to the arts if you’re rich
Where: A London apartment, probably like an Airbnb known for its discretion at hosting such events.
Why: So Emrys can catch a break after Elmer and Ben’s fighting. Lol, actually, for art sex party purposes.
When: April 3rd
you’re about to find out why I said “fuck” in a voice message to Lynn

Some rich eccentric guy is hosting a live action porn play followed by a party. At the beginning, they will watch a scene from Zeus’ life. This time, the guests will see “Leda and the swan” aka that time Zeus turned into a swan to seduce Leda. It will be all very artsy with nice costumes and glitter, but the actors will actually have sex.

Afterwards, a party will ensue. Party Potions, making out, fun stuff.

RE: April 1891 - Fortitude Greengrass - March 27, 2021

U/MCAB | REP 6+ | BALL

What: Grace Greengrass' Coming Out Ball
Who: Have you ever threadded with any of the Greengrasses? You are invited! Are you a man who might be on the marriage market? You are invited! Are you a socialite with unmarried sons or brothers? You are invited!
Cost: too damn much on the hosting side Nope!
Where: Hogsmeade Ballroom
Why: Because Grace needs to get married like, yesterday.
When: 24 April

It's a traditional deb ball, which includes: the hostess (Audra Greengrass) and new debutante standing at the front of the room to receive and briefly chat with each and every guest who arrives, while being surrounded by bouquets Grace received from family friends. She might be allergic to one of them and she might sneeze on you, who knows?

There's a four piece string quartet and some appropriate decor that doesn't look cheap but is also by no means lavish; pastel color scheme.

Contact Player(s): Lynn Fortitude Greengrass but also Beanie (Noble Greengrass) can probably answer questions also

RE: April 1891 - Ginevra Blackwood - March 30, 2021

MC/UCAB | REP 6+ | Ball

What: Festival of Fools Ball
Who: Hosted by the Ginevra Blackwood - bankrolled by Daddykins
Invited are the usual upperMC and UC great and good - anyone on the cusp might be invited for their interest

Cost: Nope
Where: Blackwood London Home

Why: It's April Fools day - and that deserves a carnival esq
When: 1st April

A ball! There will be the usual music and dancing to enjoy

On arrival in the courtyard where the carriages pull up, there will be a 'gypsy' band playing and girls dancing for atmosphere, tents, fire breathers and jugglers

Inside the room is festooned in purples, yellows, and turquoise, with sunburst and tarot-style symbols- This sort of aesthetic . The room has been made up to look like a circus tent.

There is a tarot reader in a corner, acrobats and trapeze artists swinging overhead.
A smaller area of the dance floor is full of enchanted funhouse mirrors where the reflections make faces and look even odder than 'normal'

There are a number of small 'pranks' - things like 'kick me', 'kiss me', 'pinch me', etc appearing on peoples backs, fans when unfurled will suddenly be full of glitter, flowers in the floral arrangements which will squirt small amounts of water at passersby, gentlemen boutonares will turn into weeds.
Each person will be touched by 1-2 pranks during the evening - If Ginny has strong feelings about you, you might be subject to a few more pranks than average.

The finger food is all enchanted to taste like something else- bertie botts style. The champagne punch will taste of a new flavour with each sip, and has a slight euphoria spell on it, not incredibly noticeable unless you are eating huge quantities but people will feel a little more merry.

There are house elves dressed as motley fools scattered about who can be asked to prank people, the pranks can't be dangerous or cruel - but a persuasive talker might be able to convince an elf.

A candlelight vigil will be held, beginning just after sunset and lasting as long as people wish to stay. RE: April 1891 - Henrietta Cartwright - April 9, 2021

U/MCAB | REP 7+ | BALL

What: Henrietta Cartwright's Debut
Who: Mrs. Cartwright presents her daughter to society notables (mostly UCAB with good rep, select MCAB with good rep - like if you're friends with one of the Cartwrights)
Cost: No, but it's customary for friends and family to send a bouquet beforehand!
Where: Cartwright Home, London
Why: to hopefully get Henrietta married?
When: 17 April

Decor theme is primrose. Colors are pink, yellow, and white. Most of the room is reserved for dancing while standing tables with primrose bouquets dot the edges. At the back of the ballroom, double doors open to a garden terrace with enchanted floating lights and a frankly obscene amount of primroses woven into the bushes and flower arches and things. There's a string octet because we're very fancy.

RE: April 1891 - Reuben Crouch - April 23, 2021

ACAB | REP ANY | BOOZE FEST

What: Jewell Distillery Flash Sale & Street Party
Who: Ben Crouch organizing, open to anyone who might wander through Padmore Park
Cost: No cost to attend to taste samplers. Single drinks are for sale as well as bottles (ranging from middling quality stuff that would be accessible for WC types to splurge, up to top-shelf stuff that would only really be comfortable for UC). If you sign a contract today for a bulk order (like to supply an upcoming party) you also get a discount on your order.
Where: Padmore Park
Why: Jameson Jewell's turning 31 and Ben's celebrating with a surprise sale :P
When: 23 April 1891

There are a few pop-up booths in Padmore Park (single drink sales at one, bottle sales divided up by quality so that top-shelf customers don't have to wait in line with the riff raff, and a covered seated area where bigger customers can discuss contracts for bulk orders) are arranged in a loose horse-shoe. There are also some food vendors mixed in, but they're not sponsored by Jewell, they're just tag-alongs trying to capitalize on the crowd. In the center area are a few park games of the "they get more fun the more you've been drinking" variety. Any age can drink because #VEalcoholism. There's an obstacle course for the kiddos and any child who manages it under a certain time can have a free bottle of middling quality whiskey. This event takes place throughout the afternoon and will wrap up by the time the sun goes down, so won't conflict with the Minister's Masquerade.
