History:
Tomohiro Ueda and Yun-Hee Seong came together through an arranged marriage forced upon them by their respective families. Both families were of wealth and a vast history of pureblood that went back centuries. In an effort to join their prestige status as well as join forces in a business aspect the Japanese Ueda family and the Korean Seong family set up their best son and daughter. Tomohiro and Yun-Hee by all accounts despise one another, and once their duty of bestowing their parents with grandchildren was fulfilled they’ve made a strong effort to avoid one another unless an event demands their joined presence. Tomohiro has since feigned a passionate worklife, while Yun-Hee sticks to her own wing of their home to escape any contact outside of the staff. Both of them make an active effort to avoid their own children as they both hold a general disdain for their very existence, leaving any form of parenting behind closed doors to be left to the household's staff.

Childhood:
Sumire’s childhood was quite a lonely one. Outside of her older brother who was also left to the care of the housestaff, Sumire was left to entertain herself outside of their lessons. While she did often take to following Jung-Hwa around the estate and regarded him highly to almost an infatuation level of sibling idolization, her brother was often more focused on bettering himself to gain recognition from their parents through his standup behaviour and accomplishments. Taking a more frustrated approach to gaining attention, Sumire was often lashing out bitterly around the estate for many of her younger years only to become increasingly more frustrated when neither of her parents batted an eye. Despite this loneliness, Sumire often held disdain for other children her age as their relationships with their parents seemed like a fairytale in her mind, and she wasn’t able to overcome her own jealousy enough to play kindly with them. The only time Sumire was able to see her parent’s was at formal events where anything but the best behaviour led to harsh punishments.
At the age of 5 Sumire’s grandparents took her and Jung-Hwa out to a local shrine for the New Year to give their blessings. While on the trip Sumire spotted a black cat walking about and eagerly scooped him up. When she arrived back at the Ueda estate with the cat the staff chose to let Sumire keep it as it seemed to give her a sense of companionship and toned down her rage filled outbursts greatly. From this point forward her cat Keitaro was Sumire’s best friend, and as if he understood his role in the young girl's life he always stayed by her side. While this did stop the physical aspect of Sumire’s outbursts, her rage still manifested in a rather harsh and cold tongue. It appeared that with the void of loneliness filled, Sumire was able to focus on her lessons with a clear mind, and really begin to absorb her teachings while also beginning to understand the hierarchy her family held compared to those around her. A sense of superiority was not lost on her, as Sumire began striving to learn as much as possible from books as the feeling of being able to look down on others filled her with great satisfaction - as if it justified the loneliness because no one had actually been worthy of her companionship anyways.
Around when Sumire turned 7, the Ueda family was uprooted as her father was assigned the role of taking his career outside of Japan. Moving to London held little significance to Sumire as she had no close human relationships, and was confident that learning another language would be a breeze for someone of her standing. While both children began strict English lessons, Sumire took great pride in the opportunity to overcome her own brother in her ability to absorb the language faster. She often studied outside of their lessons, and became fluent months before Jung-Hwa. There was no surprise when Sumire’s Hogwarts letter arrived on her 11th birthday as Jun-Hwa had had his letter arrive only a few years earlier. However the event was marked with a different kind of excitement as the Ueda children were treated to an outing back to Japan with their father for the selection of their wand. While having an underlying sense of anxious energy, it was a rare treat to be in the presence of her father outside of a formal event, and Sumire often looks back on this memory fondly. The reality of it all though is that Tomohiro Ueda viewed British craftsmanship to pale in comparison to that of a wand crafted back in Japan and refused to allow a shoddy wand to impede on his family's name.

Academic Years:
Sorted almost instantly into Slytherin the second the hat grazed her head, Sumire was surprised to find that she got along quite well with one of the other newly sorted Slytherin first years: Alice Van Helsing. Though reserved at first, Sumire slowly began opening up for the first time in her life to the idea of getting close to someone. After that girls quickly hit it off as dormmates and it didn’t take long before it was rare to see Sumire anywhere without Alice. Sumire is still rather cold and stiff with other students however, as she prefers few friendships to many. Holding a vague disinterest in others even when it comes to leisure times, Sumire is never without a book to read.
