In-Character
Full Name: Elinor Humility Goyle
Nicknames: Goes primarily by “Nora”.
Birthdate: February 4th, 1860
Current Age: Twenty-Eight
Occupation: Head of the Pest Advisory Bureau
Reputation: 7
Was disowned by her middle class family, falling to the working class. The reasons for her disownment were compassionate to many, and other than her spinster status, she has had no marks against her character in the decade since.
Residence: A second storey flat in a Pennyworth rowhouse
Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff
Wand: Holly, 12 inches, unicorn tail hair. Swishy.
Blood Status: Pureblood
Social Class: Working Class
Family: Alexander Goyle, Father [1810-1884]
Antiope Goyle nee -----, Mother [1830]
Amos Goyle, Brother [1856]
Clifford Goyle, Brother [1863]
Franklin Gower, Late Fiance [1857-1879]
Elinor has been disowned by her family and has not communicated with any of them, bar Clifford, since.
Appearance: At five feet, five inches, Nora is particularly tall for her sex, though that her build has often been described as ‘boyish’ perhaps balances this out. Her dark brown hair and grey eyes make her very much a Goyle, but her mouth is entirely that of her maternal grandmother. Naturally left-handed, she was trained from an early age to write exclusively with her right, but still wields her wand in the left for best results. She dresses smartly and neatly, and the first “practical” charms she learned when out on her own were those for mending and cleaning clothing. For special occasions, Elinor breaks out her grandmother’s pearl necklace, the one piece of jewelry she was able to take with her.
History: 1860 | Elinor Humility Goyle arrives, the first and only daughter in the family.
1863 | Clifford is born.
1866 | In her first act of magic, Elinor magically locks her nursery door. Not even
alohamora will open it until after dinner.
1871 | She departs for Hogwarts, where she is sorted easily into Hufflepuff. She finds herself largely keeping to herself, as most of her childhood ‘friends’ have been placed instead in Slytherin and Gryffindor.
1873 | Now a third year, Arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures are added to her timetable. She struggles with the former, and finds herself a tutor in one of her housemates, Franklin Gower.
1876 | After sitting her OWLs and seeing modest success, Nora moves forward with Astronomy, Charms, Herbology, and Transfiguration.
1878 | Nora debuts at the Hogwarts ball, running into Mr. Gower for the first time since his leaving Hogwarts. The two talk only briefly, as her mother and elder brother spend much of the evening introducing her to seemingly every bachelor they know and deem appropriate.
They do, however, develop a written correspondence, meeting occasionally at social functions until, to her own surprise, she finds herself accepting his proposal of marriage late in November. Her parents are less than thrilled with the idea of her marrying a black muggleborn, and give her the predicted ultimatum: him or them. She chooses him and moves in with Franklin’s sister and her family until the wedding.
1879 | An auror, Franklin is killed on the job a week before they are to tie the knot. Devastated, Elinor writes to her mother but receives no response. She remains for another two months at the home of his sister before the woman begins to hint that Elinor should probably move out. Using the income garnered from renting out Franklin’s home—Elinor having inherited it—she is able to rent a room in a boarding house and forced to figure out her life. Nora had never intended to have to actually
fend for herself and given her upbringing, has no idea how the hell to actually do so. A month later, she is forced to bite the bullet and finds a job as a secretary at the Ministry of Magic. She finds both her superiors initially off-putting, but grows to respect Mrs. Skeeter, the Assistant Head of her department.
1884 | In the first contact she’s had with her family in almost eight years, Clifford writes her to inform her that their father has perished in the Laughing Plague. This begins a written relationship that is tentative at first, but grows more intimate over the next half-decade.
1885 | With Morwenna’s encouragement, Nora leaves her secretarial post for a job in the Pest Advisory Bureau.
1886 | With its redevelopment and her added income, she leaves her London boarding house for a flat in Pennyworth.
1888 | Morwenna is quite rightly promoted, and this year marks a promotion for Elinor, too: she is now the head of the Pest Advisory Bureau.
Personality: LOYAL — RELIABLE — RESERVED — DETERMINED — HUMBLE
Other: SKILLS:❧ Like all young ladies from respectable backgrounds, Nora is proficient in French and can play the piano. Or rather, was and could, for neither has seen much use in the years since she was disowned. #whoops
