If one ignores her ridiculous height (she stands at five feet, seven and a half inches in her stockings), Minerva Nightly is exceptionally plain. A round young lady with brown eyes and ginger locks, her delicate nose—inherited from her mother, for her father was practically an elephant—is widely regarded to be her best feature. She dresses simply so as not to draw undue attention to herself, and because her grandparents only splash out a grander clothing allowance when absolutely necessary so as not to look bad. She is right-handed.History:
Personality:As the first child born to her parents, Minerva Louise’s arrival was lauded—a testament to her parents love. Her father, who seldom saw his purist family on account of marrying a muggleborn, was particularly ecstatic to see the family grow. Her earliest years were rather unexciting, marked by the arrival of two new siblings as the years wore on.A Daughter
At six, Minerva’s first act of magic was nearly overlooked, so subtle was it. When her brother was crying, she moved to comfort him, and the red roses in the vase behind them turned pink, her favourite color. Quiet but nice, just like Minerva, and wholly unsurprising to those who knew her.
Things took a turn in 1880. A freak floo accident killed both her parents, leaving Minerva, Theodore, and Lenny in the care of their only living magical relatives, their grandparents, who had always tolerated them at best.
An Inconvenience
The fact that they were orphans did not exactly warm her grandparents’ hearts. While they took in Theodore to raise as they saw fit—with both sons now dead, he was the last hope for the family name, after all—the girls were sent to St Mungo’s Home for Inconvenient Children in Hogsmeade, in the hopes that they might live a comfortable and well-educated life far away from Solomon and Iphigenia.
With their parents dead and now their brother elsewhere, the girls took it in two decidedly different fashions: Lenny began acting as wildly as she could manage to get away with, whilst Minerva became even more reserved. She found herself most comfortable shadowing one or two of the other girls, or even Aunt Lydia: doing so allowed her to be sociable without being social, and she was content enough in the background.
The time eventually came for Minerva to depart for Hogwarts where, quite laughably, she found herself sorted into Gryffindor. Having expected Hufflepuff or even Ravenclaw, the now first year felt rather like a dear in headlights as she joined her new, boisterous home, where she made a couple of good friends but mostly continued to keep to herself. Third year saw the addition of Divination and Ancient Runes to her timetable and the return of Theodore to her daily life—though her brother was sorted into [house], the siblings relished the return to one another’s companionship.
Now in her fifth year, Minerva has given surprisingly little thought to her impending O.W.L. examinations, instead fretting over the well-being of her siblings.
Other:SHY — PASSIVE — BRIGHT — MOTHERLY — INSECURE — CREATIVE
— Minerva passes her time by writing awful (PG) romance novels. She would essentially drop dead of embarrassment if anyone ever found them.
— Her favourite color is pink, but Aunt Lydia won’t let her wear it with her complexion.
— Proficient in French.
— Allergic to cats. Hogwarts can be a struggle.
