Back and forth, forth and back I keep pacing. I stay the same while this world keeps changing. 1868 - 1879
August, 1868 | Byron is born into the Applegate family. He enjoys a pretty run of the mill childhood. It is a happy one as far as he is concerned despite the oddness with his parents. |
1873 | The eldest son, Ezra, goes off to Hogwarts and is sorted into Hufflepuff. Byrons too busy with his own childish schemes to notice the absence after the first month or so. |
July, 1874 | Byron shows his first signs of magic by vanishing a toy he and a sibling were fighting over. This is also when he has a high point of 'imaginary friends' which concern the staff somewhat. No one else seems all that concerned though so it is brushed off as it doesn't really interfere with daily life. |
75-79 | Byron spends the next few years waiting for his own turn to go to Hogwarts to arrive. He is fascinated by the stories older siblings bring back with them. |
I try to run but these walls got me caged in. Is it real or just my imagination? 1879 - 1886
79-80 | Byron goes off to Hogwarts and is sorted into Ravenclaw. He is quick to make friends, enjoying the process greatly. It is great fun for him to be around children that aren't his siblings much as he does love his kin. |
80-81 | In his second year, a dormmate tries convincing him to join the Quidditch team. Byron has no inclination to do so but goes to the tryouts anyway though mostly as a moral support for his roommate. He is greatly relieved when he does not make the team. |
81-82 | Byron picks Ancient Runes and Ancient Studies for his electives. |
82-83 | It is in his fourth year when Byron becomes fully aware that not everyones brains works quite the same as his. At least not when it comes to hearing things sometimes that aren't there or hearing voices that aren't his own inside his own head. It causes him a great deal of confusion but he begins to keep quiet about such things, personally figuring that perhaps this is just a byproduct of being too imaginative or something. |
83-84 | Byron doesn't get prefect which he feels is not really a surprise. When he gets his OWL grades, he has passed all his classes and gotten enough grades to net himself a partial scholarship which he supposes must be a load off his parents minds. This same school year is when the Chastity Cuffs put a huge damper on his quest to get his first kiss. |
84-85 | The Cuffs continue to ruin Byrons life. The school year ends early due to Azkaban convicts being on the loose. Over the summer, he finally has his long sought after first kiss. |
85-86 | Byron graduates and has intentions to work at the Museum of Magical Miscellany as a curator. He isn't quite old enough yet though so he works at an art gallery for the time being. |
If these walls could talk they'd say, that I was so damn lonely. 1887 - 1890
1887 | Byron is caught up in the World Market Fair disaster but manages to get out with relatively little trauma or injury. |
1888 | Having spent the last couple of years working for an art gallery, Byron puts in his resignation that summer and applies for a curator position at the Museum of Magical Miscellany. He is thrilled when he gets it. The new position helps him keep his mind off the fact that the symptoms of auditory hallucinations he has always lived with have been getting... louder. Somehow. He cannot explain it so chooses to ignore it for as long as possible. |
11890 | Over the next couple of years, the hallucinations get worse and gradually, shadows had joined in. Whenever he tries to tell someone what is going on with him, they don't seem to hear what he is actually saying. It is frustrating and terrifying. Byron is forced to accept that he just might have to live with this. Until one day, the voices begin overlaying with other peoples voices. It sounds like people are telling him to do awful things, terrible things. He is at a party for the Museum when things come to a head and he has a full breakdown. He insists that people said certain things to him, they had to have, it can't all just have been in his head. Before now, he had always been able to tell the difference but now he can't anymore. It is all too much. Needless to say, he leaves his job at the Museum and spends the next few months recuperating at home. At least as much as he can with everything that is going on and no one seemingly able to help. |
It feels like no one knows me. These walls keep closing on me. 1891 - 18XX
1891 | Byron spends the rest of 1891 at home, feeling like he has truly gone mad. At some point, it enters his head to get back into sculpting - a hobby he'd had since his school days but had put to the side when his work life had started. And something miraculous happens - the shadows that had been his constant companions disappear, his mind feels clearer and the voices go back to what they normally had been. He finally feels like he can breathe but the damage is done: he has been left changed by his experiences. He builds an art studio in the backyard of the family estate and relentlessly makes various sculptures, afraid of what will happen if the shadows and 'bad' voices return. |
1892 | In 1892, when he had mostly figured out what seems to work and timing of things, Byron applies to work as a photographer at the Daily Prophet. It is a job that doesn't require too much talking and he won't need to be around people that often. It feels like a good enough fit. |
