we are the very hurt you sold
1875 - 1882
1875 — 1877: without much surprise or preamble, helena rose emmeline crabbe is sorted into hufflepuff. the sorting hat was on her head for a grand total of five seconds before announcing her for the house of loyalty. unlike most of her peers, helena is very selective with her friendships, only offering true loyalty to those who prove to deserve it in her eyes — that is, primarily upper class half- and pure-blooded individuals. granted, she does reach beyond the boundaries of house to expand her horizons, but she develops a small knot of friends in hufflepuff nonetheless. she’s not much for house pride, finding yellow not to be her color.
1877 — 1880: in a rare fit of rebellion, after her mother
insists she sign up for divination and
only divination for her owl electives, helena does the exact opposite, not signing up for divination and instead assigning herself care of magical creatures and ghoul studies. she doesn’t have much interest in the latter, taking it primarily because the idea of it disgusts her mother, but she doesn’t do too poorly in either class.
1880 — 1882: helena’s newt years are spent primarily focused on her future as a debutante, especially her seventh year, though she continues her standard education as she ought to, taking care of magical creatures, charms, defense against the dark arts, herbology, and transfiguration. charms and transfiguration prove a touch harder than before, as her wand refuses to allow her to cast nonverbally. during a class lesson on casting a patronus, helena is shocked to discover her patronus takes the form of the bengal tiger. in her time not spent studying for her exams, she spends her time focusing on advanced etiquette, modern dance, and practicing piano.
