UC.MC AB| REP 7+ | Ball
What: Random Ball
Who: A society lady with a sense of humour
Cost: N/A
Where: Random Big House
Why: I needed an event
When: 2nd June
A society matron has held a large ball - however during 1 specific song all the dancers switch bodies! It's just for the duration of their dance. Some patrons may experience more than 1 episode of this switching but it lasts for the length of the dance with your partner.
She took great pains to get as many people on the dance floor for that song as she possible could, matching people up with any partner sitting idol just to enjoy the outcome.

M/UCAB | REP 4+ | BALL
What: Dragon Drinks (OOC name, IC would be 'Gnarlgood's 77th Birthday Extravaganza')
Who: Jointly hosted by Jewell (to promote their latest liquor line) and NPC Meriweather Gnarlgood (who is celebrating his 77th birthday)
Cost: Your invitation includes two cocktails; if you drink more a bill will be collected after the fact.
Where: Hogsmeade Memorial Ballroom
Why: :D
When: June 20th
The event is structured like a typical ball except for a few features. Guests who brought gifts are encouraged to add them to an ever-growing 'hoard' of presents in one corner, which Gnarlgood will be perching on at various points throughout the evening. All guests are given wristbands on which waitstaff will tally drinks, which they are expected to turn in before leaving so that a bill (if appropriate) may be sent the following week. There are conjured dragons (courtesy of Alasdair Greyback) meandering overheard and occasionally interacting with the guests on the upper level. The cocktails on offer each have one of these effects:
— gives the drinker "dragon skin" (a shiny, scale-like appearance on some portion of their face or body, proportionate to how much they've had to drink. It's aesthetic only and fades as the liquor does. It should be noted that illusory dragon skin will NOT protect the drinker from fire the way real dragon skin would).
— gives the drinker temporary horns, claws, or tail (real enough that they could do damage if one isn't careful but will also harmlessly resolve with the passage of time).
— gives the drinker the ability to breathe fire (how well you are able to control your fire-breathing is tbd. They fireproofed the ballroom but not the guests).
There is a rumor that there are also cocktails that will give you wings and let you fly but it's only a rumor, there were issues with it in production which means it's still being tinkered with at the Jewell warehouse.
Each cocktail comes in a variety of colors and flavors corresponding to different dragon breeds.

ACAB | REP ANY | CHAOS
What: The Dragons Take London (OOC only, this isn't an IC-planned event)
Who: anyone
Cost: your dignity, perhaps a limb
Where: It starts in a magical neighborhood in London but chaos could also spill into Muggle London and need to be contained by Ministry folks
Why: Chaos <3
When: 30 June 1893, after everyone at Jewell has gone home for the day. Could stretch into the following weekend.
After the successful launch of their existing dragon-themed liquors, Jewell decided to stop tinkering around with the "cocktails give you wings" version. The existing product was moved from their warehouse to the alleyway next to their warehouse in preparation for someone hauling it away and safely disposing of it the following week, but when word got out that there were dozens of barrels of liquor just sitting there, entirely unsecured, the hard working folks of London decided to help themselves to some drinks. Soon, drunken revelers were passing conjured pint glasses full of experimental liquor into the hands of anyone happening by.
The results are unpredictable. Some may finish a glass without experiencing any effects. Some will begin to fly — uncontrollably, in all directions, up into the atmosphere if not stopped! Some will acquire dragon wings connecting their arms to their torsos (and likely tearing their clothes in the process). Some may experience some other bits of "dragon anatomy" such as eyes changing to see a wider spectrum of colors than humans can or teeth in multiple rows, etc. They're generally not "cool" or "pretty" alterations which was why this liquor didn't make the cut for continued refinement and eventual sale.
Results last longer the more you've had to drink, and timelines for return to normal are unpredictable, but everyone changed by dragon liquor will eventually return to themselves. Those who wish for speedier returns can work with the Ministry, who will arrive at some point to perform crowd control and try to keep any human-dragon hybrids confined to the magical areas of London.

ACAB | SPIRIT | GHOST BALL
What: Spirit Ball
Who: Spirit Div is handling logistics but it's really by and for ghosts. Any ghost in good standing with the Ministry (ie, they have not violated a restraining order/movement restriction in the past decade) will receive an invitation; they may then invite guests as they please (spiritual or living). Spirit Div employees are on hand for the night to resolve any issues that arise. Rather than having one host, this ball was put on by a small committee of spirits.
Cost: N/A
Where: Hogsmeade Memorial Ballroom
Why: It's an annual affair.
When: Thursday June 22nd
It's hard to make something work for both living and dead attendees, and as a result this event does only a passable job at either. At one end of the ballroom is a table of food for living folks, at the other is a smaller table of rotted food for ghosts (with some charms to ensure the smell doesn't permeate the ballroom except for the few feet around the table). Music and dances will be coming from just about every era. As was typical in the renaissance/medieval era, there will be opportunities for performances of song/dance/poems interspersed throughout the evening.
As an eventual compromise re: the desire of some spirits to participate in a hunt and the desire of Spirit Division not to have ghost hounds interrupting the citizens of Hogsmeade in their homes, the committee plans to clear the dance floor at midnight and invite anyone inclined to participate in a bear-baiting / gladiator style combat with a ghost bear in the center of the "arena." This is not cruel, involved parties will argue, because the bear is incapable of dying at the end and will instead be (hopefully) relocated to the Forbidden Forest. The logistics of relocating the bear to the forest without disrupting the rest of Hogsmeade are a point of great stress and contention amongst Spirit Div staffers.

U/MCAB | REP 7+ | FASHION SHOW & AUCTION
What: Animal Kingdom Fashion Show
Who: The Phoenix Society lady's club has made arrangements and chosen the charity for the auction; House of Lytton provided the attire for the fashion show
Cost: Tickets have a nominal cost but attendees are also expected to bid at the auction
Where: Hogsmeade Assembly Room
Why: Fashion
When: 9 June
This is mostly geared towards women but men are welcome to attend with their sisters/wives/etc!
The evening is divided into three components: silent auction where guests can mingle and enjoy light refreshments, a fashion show where they are expected to be seated in the audience, and a return to the silent auction following. All fashion show pieces are themed to evoke different animals, muggle and magical, and guests are encouraged to dress to theme as well. During both auction portions, guests can purchase elaborate face-painting to transform them into an animal of their choice. With contouring and vibrant color, you're guaranteed to be totally unrecognizable. Unbeknownst to the guests, the artists may also be layering in some magic to help inspire guests to get "in character" by adopting some mannerisms of their target animal. A woman with cat makeup may find herself absent-mindedly licking the back of her hand to smooth down her hair; a rabbit-faced woman will have an especially twitchy nose; etc. These magical mannerisms linger longer than the makeup, and may recur for the next week or so before fading entirely.
The event is scheduled for the mid-afternoon, early enough that you can (and are highly encouraged to) attend it prior to any other evening plans.

RE: June 1893 -
Charlotte Quibbleberry - June 1, 2023
UCAB | REP 7+ | BALL
What: Annual Quibbleberry Ball
Who: A ball for the wealthier — if your family is upper class and in good standing, you will have automatically received an invitation. Family members with middling reputations may be allowed as a plus-one to relatives in good standing.
Cost: N/A
Where: The Quibbleberry Wellingtonshire home
Why: The Season
When: June 17
Primarily just a generic Ball for the Season, every year there's something new that happens. Last year, there were live peacocks roaming the edge of the ballroom — this year, Charlotte has decided that the current fashions in formalwear are unfavorable, after her daughter's...situation at the Hogwarts Coming Out Ball. As such, in the last days of planning, Charlotte sent out an amendment to her invitations. That the suggested dress code not even be wizarding robes, but classic Tudor attire. Historical accuracy is not required, and guests will not be ejected for not following this late change.
The ballroom is decorated richly, with red and burgundy bouquets, gold-hued candles, and panels in the walls magically converted to mirrors. There is no garden to access at the Quibbleberry Wellingtonshire home, though there is a back patio overlooking a small, well-kept rose garden, as well as an upstairs balcony with tables and chairs over the ballroom itself, which guests may retreat to if they need a break from the dance floor. The drawing room has been set up with playing card tables, for the married gentlemen.

Justin Ross - June 10, 2023
UC/MCAB*| REP 4+* | MINISTRY BALL
What: The Minister's Annual Ball.
Who: Hosted by Minister Ross, those invited to the ball are:
- All ministry employees and their immediate families
- Hospital Head and immediate family
- Hospital department heads, +1
- Business owners including Quidditch sponsors and other professionals (ex. attorneys, magizoologists, librarians etc), +1
- Quidditch captains
- "Society Notables" not included above -- ask me
Please note Ministry department heads & assistant heads & Ross' office are expected to attend!
Cost: N/A, but if you can't afford dress for a ball, you won't be admitted
Where: A magical ballroom in London, England
Why: Ross is obligated
When: 6/24
With the summer solstice on June 20th, the theme of this ball is very distinctly astrology. The ceiling of the dance floor is enchanted to look like the Milky Way, and the powder rooms and gender-segregated card rooms are stylized in a Victorian-era ideal of each of eight currently discovered planets. (It turns out that men are from Mars and women are from Venus.) The drinks glitter with a supposed "space dust" (harmless magic glitter) and the invitations were stylized with the stars.

BY INVITE| REP N/A | BIRTHDAY PICNIC
What: Sisse Thompsett's 17th Birthday Picnic
Who: GryffinGroup and GryffinGroup Adjacent and anyone who is a friend of Sisse's
Cost: N/A
Where: Padmore Park
Why: To celebrate Sisse's official adulthood.
When: June 14, 1893
Sisse has decided that since she is officially an adult she should host her first event. With help from her former governess. Think typical Victorian era picnic. Blankets have been spread on the ground, her cook and butler are serving dishes, there is several different places one can sit and socialize in. She has chosen an edge of a meadow near some woods and away from the lake.

Sabine Valenduris - June 15, 2023
UCAB | REP 8+ | GARDEN MASQUERADE
What: Secret Garden Masquerade
Who: Hosted by Mama Valenduris for the eligible of the British ton. Primarily UCPB but UCHB or UCMB may have gotten an invite (read: if you want them to.)
Cost: n/a
Where: Valenduris Country Estate, Italy
Why: Sabine has spent the first three years of her debut in Italy and will be spending this next season as her first full one in London. What better way to re-introduce her to the English upper classes than by having a ball? (Also, I needed an event on this date for a symbolic plot thing so why not share the love.)
When: June 17, 1893
The theme of this masquerade is ‘secret garden’ and as such, in the European fashion, is being held primarily outside. The expansive estate grounds have been decorated in all manner of enchanted lights, with real faeries trapped in glass jars and other small woodland sprites littered throughout. Harmless, but aesthetic. Furniture has been moved outdoors creating cozy spaces for guests to mingle between elegant botanicals and floating chandeliers. The refreshments are also quite earthy, floral, and natural in essence. The event begins around dusk. All guests are required to wear a masque.
