General | Those who have been so lucky to see Cal smile the first time they lay eyes on him, would remember that first and foremost. His eyes, a dark honey-brown and warm as tea, light up as a grin tugs at his mouth. Hs black wavy hair is kept neat, though throughout the day, a curl or two will work its way down from the style and tickle his forehead. His features are easy to portray amusement when at-ease amongst friends, and quick to darken, focused and sharp when confronted with an obstacle.

Expressions | Cal’s expressions vary in a more micro way, than macro; his poker face might seem good, but oftentimes it’s him sifting through the languages in his brain until he lands on the right one to translate. He doesn’t smile easily, though when he does, his expression is surprisingly warm, as if the worry and stress fades away from the lines etched into his face.

Deportment | Cal's neutral expression depicts him as a serious fellow. His posture further emphasizes this, as he can often stand in the same spot without moving a muscle; a talent that can be attributed to attending events with his parents since the age of 7. Standing at a solid 5' 11", the wizard stands out starkly in a crowd. His movements are sharply fluid, especially when working and — having spent most of his childhood moving from place to place — he has the ability to seem at ease wherever he is. He also sports a scratch from a werewolf across his chest that is only visible if his collar is askew. On the days it acts up, he can be seen slightly hunched over.

Fashion | He opts for dark neutral colors, sporting muggle suits on his days off (otherwise he wears his Hospital robes).

Accessories | Cal has few notable accessories save for a family signet ring he wears on his left pinky that he got from his father, and a pocket watch given to him by his mother. Both items were gifted to him on his 17th birthday. He also carries at least one letter from each member of his family in the pocket of his robes.

Scent | Cedar, basalm, citrus. If he's not tending to your injuries and you can smell him, you’re too close.

Distinguishing Characteristics | He is ambidextrous, and uses his wand arm interchangeably.

1858	Cal is born the first son of two prominent diplomats within the International Wizarding Community. Though the family is English, naturally his mother gives birth while attending a lecture in America. Given his parents' positions, there is never one place that he calls home for too long, and he adjusts quickly to the lifestyle of exploring new places. With the aid of magic, they're able to keep their abode the same, which helps with a sense of normalcy.
1865	Cal is no longer an only child; a pair of twins is born in the Rookwood household — Ira and Lillian. To the eldest Rookwood son, they're both squishy blobs who aren't allowed to have much fun.
1868	Lillian's first act of magic comes at a disagreement with their parents. In a fit, the salad at dinner flies everywhere and when the chaos clears, she is nowhere to be found upstairs. Downstairs, Lily confides in the family butler asking for some advice about where to go, as she's decided to run away. Cal, who had the mind to know where she would go, overhears, and works with the butler to convince her to stay.
1869-76 Hogwarts Slytherin	School is Cal's first sense of being in one place for a long period of time. While he enjoys his classes and makes new friends, he's fidgety and often finds himself exploring new places to do his homework. One day his routine is disturbed when he finds someone else in one of his secret spots: Rose, a Ravenclaw who he shares Herbology with. After some arguing back and forth, they compromise and decide to work on homework together. Cal, wanting to be a gentleman, lets her have the small nook while he sits on the ground. They discover that they both share a love of world of Herbology and horticulture. From then on, he asks for plants when his parents have to go abroad (they bring some back, of course, and he always gives some of them to Rose). Soon, his room back home (and his four poster bed at Hogwarts) are filled to the brim with terrariums and cases of experiments of his own. Tragedy strikes during the summer of 1871 during a holiday abroad, Lillian is attacked by a werewolf. Cal yells for help before attempting to save his sister. During the struggle, Cal sustains a blow to the chest and is knocked to the ground. Three weeks later he wakes up in a hospital to the news that Lily was killed. The family is thrown into mourning, and Cal's life changes even more. The result of the werewolf scratch sees his attitude change significantly; partly because of the magical wound, and partly out of his self-loathing at not being able to save Lily. His grades waver, however he is determined to keep them up. Summer proves to be a cursed time of year for Cal. The family, instead of going abroad for the summer, elect to spend the time at a British resort. The days are spent adventuring with his group of friends (Rose included, of course) and the evenings are spent playing Quidditch. One evening, a storm strikes with no warning. Both Cal and Rose are swept away by a gust of wind and hurled into a nearby lake. Cal is knocked unconscious by the blow, while Rose manages to stay conscious. She manages to save him, however in doing so, she perishes. By the time he is fished out he is nearly half dead. With magic on their side, he's revived, however, he must remain in St. Mungo's for a few weeks under supervision. Survivor's guilt and a diagonal scar on his back are the lasting marks that he carries with him from this point onward. Returning for his sixth year leaves Cal without a sense of direction. He'd done remarkably well on his OWLs, however his growing love of Quidditch has been thoroughly quashed. Depression and anxiety (especially being around the Black Lake) see his grades drastically fall. The only peace he finds is in the greenhouses; it's during a conversation with a mentor that Cal realizes that he wants to become a healer, and to prevent himself from feeling helpless ever again. While his grades recover, the young wizard still has trouble around water. In a turn of good news, twin baby girls are born in August of 1876: Ivy and Peony. The fall of 1876 sees Ira head off to Hogwarts and sorted into Gryffindor.
1877	For his first summer out of school, Cal gains an internship at St. Mungo's. He's slightly nervous given the luck that he's had during the school breaks, however this year goes by smoothly enough. He is initially drawn to the Potion and Plant Poisoning division, however despite his penchant for herbology, he finds Spell Damage the most fascinating, as it employs practical remedies of poultices, wound dressing and potions to heal in addition to figuring out spell interactions.
1886	Ivy and Peony shock the entire family by being sorted into different houses. Ivy into Slytherin and Peony into Gryffindor.
1889	News reaches Cal that Ivy's had her heart broken by a fellow classmate. Despite being a healer, Cal finds he has exactly zero qualms about using violence when the situation calls for it. Thankfully he's talked down by Ira (who had been talked down by a friend), and the two settle for sending the boy a hexed card that end up giving him hiccups for an entire month.
1890	Cal is promoted to Spell Damage Healer in Charge. He hires a private investigator to find his sister's killer. After months of searching, the werewolf is finally found. His temper spikes again, and this time both he and Ira are stopped short by Peony and Ivy, neither of whom want to see their brothers thrown in Azkaban.

Cal has never shied away from people, however he was never fond of physical touch. He was always a lively presence at any family or diplomatic function, and he played the role of a dutiful son well; however after his sister's death, he became withdrawn and distrustful of those around him, in addition to becoming extremely protective of those he loves.

Due to the scar he sustained trying to save Lily, Cal is a bit rougher around the edges. Outside of work, his temper is quick to spark, and he can be quite blunt. While he's always loved languages and learning them, there's often times where he needs to sift through his thoughts, which can make him seem quite introspective (really, he's just trying to make sure he's not insulting your laywer uncle's profession by implying he's an avocado). He's always been competitive and calculating. He has a habit of learning the rules just so he knows exactly how to break them. It doesn't help that growing up he was quite familiar with international law.

It's not pretty when he shouts in Russian. Has followed Quidditch matches throughout his travels.
