Did You Know?
As clocks and other timepieces were expensive, working class folk who could not afford to rise with the sun could employ a “knocker-upper” to tap on their windowpane at a scheduled time. Knocker-uppers would work through the night and into the early morning. — Kayte
But then Miss Dempsey paid her so great a compliment that she wanted to hurl herself over the edge of the theater balcony in delight.

October Writing Challenge
October Writing Challenge

A popular game was the Halloween pudding. In this game, the host would bake a prophetic cake with five objects hidden inside – a ring, a coin, a thimble, a button and a key. Also known as "Halloween Dumb Cake", the cake would be baked and the pieces cut and passed around in silence. The guest who got the piece with the ring would get married that year, the coin would be wealthy, the button meet their love, the key go on a journey, and the thimble be an old maid/bachelor.

It's nearly Halloween! Your challenge this month is to start or join a thread that revolves around one or more of these objects: a ring, a coin, a thimble, a button, or a key. As usual, 3+ posts must be your own, but your thread does not need to be archived to claim — alternatively, you can do a read-only of 500+ words. Post a link here when you're done!

A like from one of my people means you’re set
to take this beauty home—no need to post in Stamp Station:
