Appearance:
-- Stands at an average 5'3".
-- An oval-shaped face with wide-set blue eyes and full lips is framed by dark, thick hair that is commented to be beautiful by some, but rather a nuisance to her. She is often seen sporting a practical updo for everyday use and in a side-braid at night.
-- After two children, her figure has never been the same and has what would be considered a "soft" figure. Neither too thin nor too plump, she has soft curves that are accentuated by the use of a corset and ample bosom.
-- In terms of style, while she still follows the popular fashion trends, her wardrobe is definitely more modest and less eye-catching than it was in her youth before marriage. Especially now with Cecily as a debutante; it would not do to draw attention away from her.
-- She wields a wand and writes with her right hand.
History:
(LATE) SUMMER OF 1859 | On a balmy morning in late summer, Veronica Edith Irene fussily made her entrance into the world in the early hours of August 23rd, 1859. As her parents' eldest child, she was doted upon instantly and much fanfare had been made over her birth, though perhaps not as much as the birth of a boy might have been. Despite this, her father grows very fond of her - as evidenced by the giving of his own personal nickname for her, Vera - and she of him, and if ever pressed to say which parent she is closest to, she would undoubtedly name her father.

YEAR OF 1861 | Veronica is joined in the nursery by little sister Louisa. Being two at the time, she doesn't remember this, though she took to the role of big sister as if it was the most natural thing in the world. She loved helping Nanny with the baby, her nurturing nature showing through even as young as she was, though Louisa wouldn't prove to be a practical playmate until a few years later.

SUMMER OF 1862 | Finally, a boy! Eugene Ethelwin Armand is born as the third-born Scamander child. Much like with her sister the year before, Veronica does her best to help out, though is limited due to both her age and baby Eugene's.

AUTUMN OF 1865 | Veronica is considered old enough to begin her education in the womanly arts, and is given a governess to instruct her in the ways of becoming a lady. While she could hardly be called a stellar student, she was certainly a hardworking one, diligently working through areas needed for improvement, and discovered - much to her governess' delight - that she had a knack for picking up languages.

(LATE) AUTUMN OF 1866 | Another sister is born named Marlena Freya Ailsa. With a fourth child now in the nursery, things were a bit cramped in the Scamander household, which was perhaps why, for all that she loved her siblings, Veronica took to hiding spending more time in her mother's greenhouse, helping to tend to her various plants and garnering an interest in botany/herbology herself. Often, one could find her curled up with a book on the couch or hidden under a garden table playing with her dolls.

SPRING OF 1867 | A late bloomer, Veronica did not show signs of magic until well into her childhood at the age of eight. It was a rainy day and too wet to go outside, so she tried to amuse her restless siblings by reading aloud to them from her favorite book of fairy tales. Her story jumped off the page hologram-like above her head, the magical almost translucent mist taking form as scenes as she read along.

YEAR OF 1868 | Eugene displays his first act of magic the year after her, managing to build a bubble of magical protection around himself after nearly colliding with a tree on his toy broomstick.

SUMMER OF 1869 | Helga Mildred Milburga is the youngest and final child of the Scamanders. She feels bad for Eugene who could have likely benefited from having a brother (so he wasn't the only boy in a family of all girls), but she's happy all the same for gaining another sibling, and like most of the family, dotes on her accordingly.

SUMMER OF 1870 | Veronica receives her Hogwarts acceptance letter at the end of July. She's nervous to leave home, but quite excited to see what lies ahead, and she and her family wasted no time in preparing for her departure. While on a shopping trip to Diagon Alley for her school supplies, she receives her first (and only) wand: Hazelwood, 12 1/2", Unicorn Tail Hair, Plaint.

FIRST YEAR (1870 - 1871) | Veronica leaves for Hogwarts where she was sorted, unsurprisingly, into Hufflepuff. She's slow to warm to her new environment at first, unused to not being around her family and missing the comforts of home, but she eventually regained her footing as the school year went on. Much like lessons with her governess, she was hardworking and studious, and found all of her classes interesting to some degree or other, though Charms, Herbology, and Potions are her favorites. Herbology, especially, was a solace as it was the greenhouses that made her feel the most at home, the familiar smells and presence of the plants a welcoming balm against her homesickness.

SECOND YEAR (1871 - 1872) | Nothing out of the normal happens in her second year, though she does replace Flying Class and Magic Theory with Herbology and Potions clubs.

THIRD YEAR (1872 - 1873) | Louisa joins her at school, getting sorted into the ----- house. She's happy to finally have one of her siblings at school, and does her best to help Louisa settle into her new school life, though it appeared that Louisa could fend well enough for herself without Veronica's assistance. She also adds two new classes in Earth Magic and Ancient Runes, the latter having been chosen due to her penchant for learning new languages, though she finds the subject more difficult than she anticipated. She is nothing if not determined, however, and was intent on sticking it out until at least NEWTs.

FOURTH YEAR (1873 - 1874) | Eugene joins her in Hufflepuff! She had suspected that he would have been sorted into Gryffindor, but was very pleased nonetheless when he wasn't, and eagerly made sure that he would be at home in their shared house.

FIFTH YEAR (1874 - 1875) | Veronica was pleased and humbled when she was named Hufflepuff Prefect for her year. She had never regarded herself as Prefect material before this, though her professors evidently thought otherwise, which gave her newfound confidence that was apparent when she returned to school, shiny new badge pinned to her school robes.

Veronica also sits her OWLs, and does decently thanks to time spent in the library with a group of like-minded students.

SIXTH YEAR (1875 - 1876) | Veronica continues her NEWT studies with Ancient Runes, Charms, Earth Magic, Herbology, and Potions. She was glad to be able to focus on the subjects she enjoys the most, though she had little to no idea how to utilize them in the real world.

SUMMER OF 1876 | Out of curiosity, Veronica applies for a summer Herbology apprenticeship, having wholly expected not to get it. Though she does, much to her surprise, and spends the summer in the company of a like-minded Herbology enthusiast, Mrs. Wakefield, a spinster. Perhaps it was the loneliness of her mentor's life that truly puts what Veronica would want for her own life into perspective, and though she had so learned much and would never regret the experience, she turns down the opportunity of a full-time position with Mrs. Wakefield after she graduates from Hogwarts.

SEVENTH YEAR (1876 - 1877) | Her seventh and final year at Hogwarts is a bittersweet experience. She's sentimental about the years she's spent there, and even more so on the night of her debut.

SUMMER OF 1877 | After her self-realization of last summer, Veronica joins the other debutantes in attending the Season. While the idea of holding a profession was enticing at first, her main desire she realized was to get married. Not for any sort of social obligation or a desire to marry above her station, but to be married to a good to a man who could provide her with a good living without having to rely on her parents, to have a family of her own, and run her own household - perhaps even build a greenhouse of her own day. She'd be perfectly content with that.

At the end of the summer, the Scamanders relocate to Hogsmeade, settling in a new house in North Bartonburg. Eugene is also named Prefect for Hufflepuff; she was incredibly proud!

AUTUMN OF 1878 | Marlena goes off to Hogwarts where she's sorted into Gryffindor. Veronica is caught off-guard by this placement, having always viewed her little sister as a Ravenclaw, but supposes that the hat could never be wrong.

SUMMER OF 1879 | Louisa graduates and joins Veronica as a debutante. She's proud of her sister, of course, though she could not help but worry that Louisa's more vibrant personality would eclipse her own natural quieter charm. She begins to contemplate whether or not she had made the right decision in refusing to work, though gave herself until the end of the year to decide anything if she still came up empty-handed.

YEAR OF 1880 | Just when Veronica was beginning to lose hope of ever marrying, she becomes acquainted with shop owner and quidditch sponsor, Nathaniel Gallivan. Although their meeting was hardly one for the romance books, their like-minded personalities assured Veronica that she could be quite happy with him - even if he had already been married once before with two children of his own - and she had seen no reason to refuse his offer of marriage when he proposed at the end of the year.

The same year that her brother graduates and takes up an occupation in the Beast Division at the Ministry, Helga heads off to school and also gets sorted into Hufflepuff! This marks three of the five Scamander children to do so.

SPRING OF 1881 | She becomes Mrs. Veronica Gallivan in a simple yet elegant affair and settles into her new role as wife and stepmother. The former was easy, but the latter was a bit more difficult. While Cecily was happy to welcome her with open arms, having spent most of her life without a maternal figure, Theodore was harder to win over despite her firm assurance that she did not mean - and nor could she ever - replace the former Mrs. Gallivan in her new family's hearts.

SPRING OF 1882 | Veronica was a little shocked when she discovered that she was pregnant, having not expected it to be quite so soon, though she was happy to welcome her son, Nathaniel Gallivan II, in May of 1882. She adores her little boy, and finally feels like she has everything she wanted.

FALL OF 1883 | Veronica is safely delivered of a baby girl in the fall of 1883. She names her Selene Isobel Gallivan. This would prove to be her last pregnancy for now, which she doesn't terribly mind. Knowing from experience the downsides of when children outnumber the parents, she wants to ensure that each of her children gets the attention they deserve - including Theo and Cecily.

YEAR OF 1884 | This year is... not great. Veronica is pleasantly surprised when her father decides to run for Minister. Not that he wasn't perfectly capable, of course, though it wasn't something she ever expected of the man, and her doubts only intensified after he had a heart attack while in the running. He sensibly decides to withdraw and retire from the Ministry afterward, for which Veronica is entirely grateful. During a school Quidditch match, Theo gets impaled by his own broomstick, and Veronica is naturally horrified by this. Then things go further downhill by the arrival of the plague and Fiendfyre during the summer. The Gallivans and the Scamanders were largely untouched, thankfully, though Veronica couldn't help but fret over the health of her children for the duration of it. Every sneeze, sniffle, and unusual giggle had her on high alert until the plague was effectively banished at the end of the summer.

YEAR OF 1885 | The year that Veronica begins to suspects that something is amiss in her household. Cecily, who had always been close to her father, is decidedly cold towards Nathaniel, which does not escape Veronica's notice. She tries to subtly inquire as to this new change, but when neither was willing to divulge, she resorted to allowing them to work it out for themselves while inconspicuously trying to be the bridge that brings the two back together again.

Her younger sister, Marlena, graduates from Hogwarts, though rather than attend the Season like her sisters before her, opts to work in the Department of Mysteries instead - which Veronica feels suits her perfectly.

SUMMER OF 1886 | A good year for Theodore, who graduated from Hogwarts as Prefect, Head Boy, and Quidditch Captain. Veronica couldn't help but think that with credentials like that, the world was practically his oyster, and supported him when he decided to go into the Auror Training Program instead of play Quidditch professionally. After the broomstick impaling incident, she's a little wary of anyone playing Quidditch - especially Cecily.

YEAR OF 1887 | Veronica's world is turned upside down when she discovers that her husband, the kind and gentle man she had married who could possibly never hurt a soul, was a werewolf - and everyone, but her knew about it. She was unsure what to think or how to feel - betrayal, sadness, terror... - and she'd spent a better part of a week holed in her room trying to process it. But she wasn't the type the hold grudges or resentments, and once the initial shock had worn off, she was able to accept the situation for what it was. Nathaniel was a werewolf, that was a fact, and for the sake of their family, she would keep the secret.

Baby sister Helga graduates and debuts; all of the Scamander children were officially adults.

SUMMER OF 1888 | Cecily graduates and debuts at the beginning of summer. When she reveals her doubts of being feminine enough for debutante life, Veronica suggests spending a year at PSYR. With Cecily having pursued athletics at school and had even been made Quidditch Captain for the Ravenclaw team, it couldn't hurt to brush up on her knowledge of the feminine arts - and if it bolstered her confidence afterward, then so much the better.

FALL OF 1888 | Veronica is thrown for a loop again when Nathaniel disappears on a scouting trip to Asia. He is presumed dead by the public, but is, in fact, very much alive. She hadn't been sure whether to be angry that he left or sad that he felt he had to leave to begin with - perhaps a bit of both - though she opted for staying busy instead of dwelling overlong on things beyond her control. It broke her heart when she broke the news gently to Natty and Selene, who were still so young to be without a father - even Theodore and Cecily, who were at the beginning of their adult lives could have used his guidance for a few more years longer - and that perhaps, despite her forgiving nature, was the one thing she could not find it within her heart to absolve him of.

YEAR OF 1889 | Life continues on for the Gallivans, however, even if their home life was forever irreparably changed. Cecily graduates from PSYR, Veronica has the pleasure of helping her navigate debutante life. Though she does often call upon her mother and Louisa for guidance, they being far more knowledgeable of societal life than she is. She's less concerned for Cecily, however, who has shown that she's more than capable of holding her own and more worried about Theo, who dropped out of the Auror Training Program soon after Thaniel's disappearance in order to look after his father's businesses. If there was anything Veronica could commend her husband for, it was ensuring that their family was well-provided for despite his "death", though if it was at the risk of Theodore's unhappiness, she would have gladly gone with less.

PRESENT | Veronica is still technically in "mourning" until the autumn, though that doesn't seem to deter a gentleman from her past from off-handedly mentioning an offer of courtship thereafter. It had to be her mother's doing, she was sure, though at present she has no interest in matrimony. How could she when Thaniel was alive and (hopefully) well?

Personality:
Virgo. Hardworking. Practical. Devoted; holds herself responsible for setting a good example for her family. Kind. Nurturing. Leans towards a more private nature with those she doesn't know well, but is skilled at giving just enough to make it seem like she is not holding back. While she doesn't shy away from social occasions, she also prefers not to be in the spotlight either; content with working behind-the-scenes in her various charity endeavors. Often gives good advice. Persistent and surprisingly stubborn, though she knows her limits when it's time to stop or give up. Loves the outdoors; would love to live in the country if she could.
Other:
-- She was a Hufflepuff Prefect from 1874-1877.
-- She is a Herbology and gardening enthusiast; her pride and joy - other than her children, of course - is her green house. She is often working on some gardening project or other, and has a plant journal that she records her findings in. In another life, she would have been a Herbologist.
-- She has a knack for picking up languages, and can speak French and Italian fluently and is proficient in German. She can also read Latin, but has trouble speaking it.
-- Allergic to cats.
