Appearance: At 5’4, Rosamund stands just a hair above her younger sister, a twin to her mother, and is slender in build, feels as though she is all elbows. She has delicate features, and dark hair and dark eyes like the rest of her family. She doesn’t care to be thought of as pretty, and feels more comfortable dressing down, in hospital robes or day dresses of neutral shades, often dark blues, greens, creams, greys and browns. She is right-handed, and as a child she was prone to biting her nails.
History:
1868 | Rosamund is born, Henry and Annabelle’s first daughter. She looks back on her childhood fondly, not unaware of the luxury she has had in a happy, loving, and comfortable upbringing. There are few people in the world so lucky as she.
1871 | Eldin is born.
1872 | Vesta is born.
1873 | Rosamund instinctively takes the responsibility of being the eldest sister seriously, and even as a child is determined to set a good example to them and mother them when she has to. She is also perfectly happy amusing herself, and does not demand a great deal of attention from anyone.
1874 | No one witnesses her first sign of magic but her; she has just accidentally broken a vase, but the moment she begins to cry over it, the glass repairs itself.
1877 | They move to Hogsmeade. Rosamund accepts this without complaint, and does her best to be helpful in it. It does not affect her life so terribly, besides; she has her books and her hobbies and her siblings wherever they are - though she does gain some newfound curiosity about muggles as a result of the upheaval.
1880 | Rosamund is the first in the family to start at Hogwarts, and - a shadow of her mother - the Sorting Hat takes an exceedingly long time determining what to do with her. Unlike her mother, however, Slytherin is not one of its options for her: Rosamund doesn’t know how it chose Gryffindor over Ravenclaw in the end, for she cannot remember a moment in her life when she has felt the slightest bit courageous. But Gryffindor it is, and she tries her best to learn to feel at home there.
1882 | Rosamund is a diligent student, being genuinely interested in her subjects, eager to impress her parents and professors with her aptitude, and perhaps a little because she cannot bear the thought of failure. In third year, she adds Ancient Studies, Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies. (She is mostly thankful to have left Flying behind in first year.)
1883 | Eldin comes to school this year, though is sorted into Slytherin like their mother. (Rosamund is constantly caught between her desires to emulate and differentiate herself from her mother, as the person she most looks up to in the world.)
1884 | This is the first time her life has ever been truly tumultuous, and it is because her father grows ill and doesn’t get better. Even with a healer in the family - head of Magical Bugs, at that - there is nothing to be done for him. This is the first kind of heartbreak Rosamund has ever felt. It does not bear thinking about.
It is some small consolation, then, when Vesta starts at Hogwarts in September and joins her in Gryffindor. (Her sister is a more natural Gryffindor, she decides. But she is glad to have her company.) To her surprise, Rosamund has also been made Prefect; this, too, gives her a way to distract herself, and be useful.
1885 | In sixth year, Rosamund reduces her courseload - a tragedy! - to Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts, Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies. In short, all the subjects she will need if she is to become a healer. How can she have grown up with as impressive a woman as her mother and have any other dreams?
1887 | In May, Rosamund graduates - to no one’s surprise - with excellent NEWTs all round. (She does not fare so well at her Apparition test, and to this day has not succeeded at it. Her excuse is that it makes her feel travel-sick.) The Coming Out Ball is her first and last experience of being a debutante, and frankly it is plenty. It is not that she does not like the idea of finding a husband or settling down, necessarily, but more that she cannot fathom committing herself to such a life of parties, or finding someone she can actually stand forever by way of a dance or two. She would rather achieve something for herself first. With that, then, she takes up an internship at St. Mungo’s. (If she is to achieve a career in healing herself, she would rather succeed somewhere slightly out from under her mother’s wing.)
1888 | In September, a year after she began, Rosamund becomes a fully qualified healer in the Artifact Incidents ward. She likes the intellectual element of it, the practical problem-solving, the being useful; but most of all, admittedly, she likes that she is helping people, and doing something good. As long as she has that, she cannot feel a failure in her life.
Personality: INFP | Rather an old soul, Rosamund is not shy, but she does come across as reserved. Sensible and pragmatic, she usually seems placid and patient, responsible and rational. She is bookish, but warm and always polite, though gets more out of conversation when there is some authenticity and honesty in it. She is a dreamer at heart, but suffices to keep her dreams and emotions tightly in check, though quietly strives to be true to herself. She has a calm kind of confidence about her; although she fears she will never live up to her mother, who has managed to bridge a career-driven life with her family and society duties in a way Rosamund is sure she will never match. (Rosamund probably puts more pressure on herself than she receives from anyone else, though.) She has never felt like a proper Gryffindor, but at her core, she would be inclined to risk her own safety to save someone else, break the rules to do the right thing, and - when it comes to things that really matter - follow her heart rather than her head.
Other:
— Her patronus is a rabbit.
— Has learnt French and German, Latin and a little Greek; at least is able to read well in those, though is less sure of herself in speaking.
— Failed her Apparition exam and largely prefers to avoid the sensation, thank you very much.
