Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Chloe's cheeks warmed as she followed the other two girl's toward their professors. This should be easy and yet here she was struggling - she absolutely hated it. She was too annoyed to even bother to correct the other girls - or really to even pay attention to them.

At last she was allowed to try again. She straightened up and cast the spell as confidently as she could this time. Better than whining as the other two were prone to do.

Toby hadn't quite managed the spell but he was undeterred - especially after Nat managed it. There was no way he was going to let his friend get the best of him. "Nat, look!" He said as he cast what he hoped would finally be a successful spell.

Pip had not done well and he was a little put out by this fact. He tried once more to ignite the pyre. "Incendio," he cast, a little more loudly.

Nathaniel was quite pleased with the bonfire he had managed to magic up. He dutifully watched Toby's attempt, willing his friend to also be successful. At least now he knew a spell that would help if he ever had to run away to the wilderness or something.

Charlie was pleased with himself for doing well on the first try. He grinned and tightened his grip on the wand to cast the spell once more.

Forsythia made another attempt at the spell. She was determined to get this right even though the idea of wielding fire was kind of scary.

The children she had gathered watched her carry out the spell and finally, at the third attempt, most of the class were succeeding. Miss Wallace muttered something and then tried again once more unsuccessfully to cast the spell.

It wasn't the greatest of infernos that had been created cumulatively but she was pleased with the efforts that had been made today. "Well done students. Looks like we will be able to have hot food for tea after all. A few of you have some little things to iron out but this will come in time with the calmness that comes with experience.

She watched the small pyres burn for a few moments. "If anyone has any problems or concerns I am happy to go through this with you privately, fire magic can be dangerous so unless you have a very firm grasp I would recommend against practising in your dorms." she grabbed and then dismissed her class. As the children walked back to the castle she would spend a few minutes out here chatting to the any curious first years and also the older students assisting while they put out the fires.
