History:Effie is pretty, but not enough—at least in her eyes—to be worthy of note. She stands at a slightly taller than average five feet, three inches tall, and has a rounder figure. Her relationship with her weight is not always healthy, but she has grown to accept the fact that she'll never have the figure that society deems acceptable and has moved onto more specific insecurities (like how one side of her face is far more freckled than the other).
Her hair is a bright orangey-red and curly as can be. She's tried countless potions and spells to straighten it, but no attempts had lasted past midday. She usually styles it in a bun, a few ringlets escaping here and there to frame her face. She dresses modestly and without a distinct style, usually preferring soft browns and neutrals during her free time.
She has a nervous habit of fidgeting with her dress skirts and will play with any object she is given to hold. She regularly snaps her quills from twiddling too much with them, and her nails are bitten down to the quick. Her one area of vanity is her scent; she has a fondness for fine perfumes and collects them whenever she is out shopping. She is left-handed.
1876 | Effervescence Lydia Darling was born just a few days past the new year on a clear winter night. The third child and long-desired only daughter in her family, she was immediately doted on by her mother. Her name was quickly shortened to Effie, which she would be the only name she would answer to for the first few years of her life.Personality:
1877 | Snooping muggles would cause the Darling family escape the bustle of London in favor of the countryside...
1878 | ... only to trade the countryside for a lavish Wellingtonshire home by the name of Darling House a mere year later.
1879 | Growing up in the ever-growing town of Hogsmeade was an experience for the toddling Effie. With her chubby cheeks and bright red curls, she charmed most everyone she came in contact with. Sadly, the sentiment was not always returned, for she was rather quiet an anxious child, preferring the company of her relatives to strangers. Although an easy child on most fronts, she was known by both her family and the household staff for crying whenever forced to leave the house to for outings into town. She was disciplined enough a child, though, to stop crying once the battle was lost.
1880 | It is shortly after her fourth birthday that her first sign of magic appears. While playing outside in the snow with her elder brothers, Effie gets overwhelmed by the cold and melts a near perfect circle around her feet before demanding they return to the indoors.
1883 | By the age of seven, Effie is already showing signs of being an artistically-inclined child. While her piano lessons expose her as a mediocre player, she takes singing and sewing and sketching swiftly. For Christmas she manages to convince her Papa to purchase her a cello after seeing a cellist perform at a family gathering, and she takes to the instrument immediately. Her greatest love, though, is reading, and even at a young age expresses interest in more advanced literature than a seven-year-old would be expected to care about.
1884 | Alongside her family, Effie embarks on an adventure around the world. It is probably much less exciting from the adult perspective, but eight-year-old Effie is in awe of everything new and different. She learns to speak a few new languages (conversationally), expands her knowledge of art (mostly in being able to identify artist names and styles), and has fun (pulling her Mama into whatever shops she happens across). It is the first time in her life she leaves her comfort bubble—and perhaps one of the last times, too.
1887 | For the first time in her life, Effie feels lost in her own home. While her parents continue their tour, she is left with her aunt and her family to begin preparations for Hogwarts. She is fond of her cousins and aunt and uncle, but it’s not Mama and Papa. Even more changes come when she ventures off to Hogwarts in the fall and finds herself sorted into Gryffindor. She doesn’t fancy herself very brave, but doesn’t spend much time questioning the Hat’s decision.
1888 | Second year sees Effie much more settled into a routine. She has a small group of friends, a steady place in Hogwarts’ music club in the cellist’s chair, and gets decent grades in every subject. She grows more conscious of her appearance and spends much of the year trying everything and everything to tame her hair—to very little success.
1889 | Effie begins her third year by adding Divination and Muggle Studies to her class roster. She keeps up her average grades, herrings As in most subjects scattered alongside a few Es and Os. Her biggest downfall is Potions—she’s absolutely dreadful, though struggles asking for help.
1891 | Effie disastrously receives her first kiss during a game over the holiday break. A few of the boys and girls from Gryffindor and Hufflepuff—mostly older students—snuck off to a far corner of the library, and one of the boys was dared to kiss Effie. He did, and it was so terrible she nearly cried (and she did, later, in the comfort of her dormitory). Her friends think she’s ridiculous for taking it to heart, but she can’t help but feel like it was wrong in more ways than one.
1892 | After finishing her OWLs, Effie decides to continue with her studies with only four courses: Astronomy, Charms, Divination, and Herbology. Her sixth year is rather calm in the grand scheme of things. She continues playing the cello in music club, enjoys spending her weekends tucked away with a good book, and passes her classes. Everything is good and well.
1893 | … Until her mama and papa comes back to Britain rather suddenly, upending her entire like built under her aunt’s roof. They announce that, upon her return to Hogwarts, they’ll be moving her belongings back to her childhood home. While not shockingc, it is startling. It’s been years since she’s lived with them. Now she’s a young woman, and her parents—well, they’re almost strangers in a way, unaware of her hopes and dreams and fears. She’s communicated with them, but has spent very little time with them otherwise. She loves them both dearly—especially her Mama, who she was always close with—but being under their nose all the time drives her nerves up.
Quiet, but not shy; brave, but not daring. Reluctant to venture outside her comfort zone, not out of fear but rather a lack of confidence in activities outside of her usual hobbies. Introspective and highly self-aware, almost too much so. Every fault she sees in herself is over-analyzed to the point of anxiety. Not good at making friends, but a good friend to the few she has. - Languages: English and French fluently. Once was able to speak conversationally in a handful of languages from her time abroad with her family, but has lost most of them through disuse.
- Classes: Not much of an academic, there isn't any particular class she excels in more than others—rather, she is average at everything she does. Her favorites, however, are Charms and Astronomy.
- Feminine skills: An accomplished cellist, but a poor performer. Can sketch and paint, but only certain things (landscapes, fruit bowls, etc.). Can do almost anything a young woman is expected to do, but only passably.
