In response to the call for submissions issued in the Daily Prophet on March 1st, I should like to call two matters to the attention of the court, though I am sure neither has escaped the notice of the Esteemed Members:

— First, that a titled position such as a Countess, Duchess, et& will necessarily be very much in public view of Muggle society and will brush shoulders with its most notable members — many of whom were instigators of the 1877 riots and instrumental in spreading ill-will against wizardkind amongst the masses. Further, while a witch or wizard can easily hide their magic by choosing not to perform spells in view of Muggles, nonhuman traits are not as easily concealed in many cases, and the woman in question runs the risk of exposing our society and incensing the Muggle nobility at every turn.

— Second, that even if the woman in question is the most circumspect in existence and herself poses no risk of discovery, the same cannot necessarily be said of her future children, who will also possess nonhuman ancestry and whose dispositions cannot be known in advance — and who will of course be more temperamental as children and therefore pose a larger risk to our society.

In short, I am strongly against the union. Should the gentleman wish to proceed with the marriage, he should first renounce his title and abdicate to someone who will produce fully human offspring (or, preferably, to someone who will produce Muggle offspring and leave wizardkind out of it).
