She’s also just generally a little rambunctious.Residence: Willow St, North Bartonburg Hogwarts House: Gryffindor Wand: 8' ¾" Applewood, Pegasus wing feather, swishy Blood Status: halfblood Social Class: middle Family: Bernard Simpson Sr | [1826] Father, retired Appearance: With dark chestnut waves that fall softly over her shoulders, Gemma has a very approachable appearance and is very much her mother's daughter. Her eyes are a dark hazel and while she only reaches a petite 4 foot 11 inches, she’s got a lot of spunk bottled up in that tiny body. Gem's got an athletic figure, lean and wiry with no curves to speak of. She most often dresses comfortably for her occupation and is generally sporting an apron of some kind, in addition to gloves. Gem prefers simple, sturdy cotton dress in brighter colors to match her personality than anything too fancy; it’s only going to get dirty anyway. She is right handed. History: [July 11th 1868] | Born the last child and second girl to Bernard and Delilah Simpson, she had an unusually difficult labor that would set the tone for her personality later in life. [Summer 1869] | Gemma was just over a year old when Bernard divorced her mother and she has no concrete memories of her. [Summer 1870] | Bernard marries Cadence, which Gemma does not remember either. [1871] | Laoise is born and Gemma, though only three at the time is excited! She was never quite suited to be the youngest, and since her siblings are all older, she’s looking forward to having more playmates. Gem gives Laoise the nickname “Lee” after having too hard of a time pronouncing the right name. [1873] | Matthias is born. Again Gemma is excited and now a little older, understands how to entertain a baby and how she can help. Gems tends to forget that Lee and Matty are not her full siblings like Joseph and the rest because she doesn’t remember her own mother. Sometimes she wonders if that’s a bad thing, but nobody ever talks about the divorce, so she doesn’t really know. [1875] | Whoops! In a move very typical to Gemma, she is sliding down the banister in the main foyer and slips off. Miraculously she floats the rest of the way down and lands perfectly softly at the bottom of the stairs. Yay accidental magic. [1876] | Goliath is born, woo more bros. [School 1879-80] | Dolly is born, but Gemma doesn’t know about it. She’s far too excited to head off to Hogwarts in the fall and is gifted with her pet owl, an Eastern Screech owl that she affectionately names Boo. Upon arrival at Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat doesn’t even touch her head before it declares her to be a Gryffindor! Well, fancy that. That suits Gemma just fine and she skips right off to the table in the Great Hall to make friends. Academics have never been her strong suit, but she takes and immediate liking to both Herbology and Potions; basically any class with the potential get messy. She also joins the garden club with a lot of enthusiasm. [School Year 1880-81] | Socially, Gemma thrives in school and works hard enough at the academics. She is absolutely smitten with the idea of playing quidditch, but she knows her father will never allow it. That gets her thinking however. If her father wouldn’t, would her mother? With an owl of her own now Gemma pens a letter to her long lost mother and sends Boo on the hunt. It took a few months but just before Christmas a letter and a present arrived for her. She left both at school over the holidays, but the tiny statuette of a Pegasus sits on her nightstand beside her bed at school and is safely hidden away in her trunk while she is at home. Gemma feels a little guilty, like she’s betraying her father and Cadence, but not knowing her mother was driving her mad. Plus, from what she learned, Delilah was not the one to blame for the divorce! She also comes home to a new baby, oddly named Bernard, like her eldest brother, after her father, though Cadence was no pregnant when she left and the baby is not in fact actually hers either. The boy is presented as a brother, but Gemma rarely treats him as such, mostly she ignores him. This cements her mother’s stories about her father and Gem loses just a bit of respect for him. [School Year 1881-82] | Gemma eagerly adds Care of Magical Creatures and Divination as her electives. Creatures is just plain fascinating and she thinks Muggle Studies will be fun! <[School Year 1882-83] | Laoise joins her at school and is sorted into Slytherin. Realistically Gemma makes friends left and right. Her personality is magnetic and she adores meeting new people. This spring, Gemma takes a leap of faith and on a Hogsmeade visit, escapes her chaperon to meet her mother in Padmore Park. [July 1883] | Cadance dies giving birth to twin girls. Gemma feels heartbroken over the loss of her step-mother. [School Year 1883-84] | OWLs loom over her head, but Gemma isn’t super worried. Her grand plans of working at the ministry are long gone; she things of taking her love of herbology a step further and becoming a herbologist. She works hard in the classes she thinks she’ll need, but positively bombs History of Magic and DADA. [Summer 1884] | PLAGUE FIRE DOOM. Bernie Jr and Berenice are lost to the laughing plage. Gemma is deatsated, but never quite knows how to react to loss. Mostly she just bottles it up and tries to be supportive of her siblings. School Year 1884-85] | Matthias comes to school and is sorted into ----. Gemma choses (or rather her grades choose for her) to continue with Astronomy, CoMC, Herbology, Muggle Studies, Potions and Art. This year she is granted permission to try out for Junior League quidditch using Bernie’s old broom; and she makes it!! She’s never been so thrilled in her entire life. She strongly suspects losing Bernie has softened her father up a bit, which endears him to her just a little bit. In April Gareth his lost to an explosion in the ministry. Gemma is again, heartbroken, so much tragedy in her family in such a short time. She and Gareth had never been particularly close, but it’s still hard. [School Year 1885-86] | Gemma becomes president of the Garden Club. She also is awarded a position on the house team as chaser; seventh year is starting out with a bang ang Gems is determined to enjoy it. Though she may not be spectacularly studious, she is social and wouldn’t be who she was without her friends. It’ll be hard not living with Kenna and Tilda or seeing August and Nate in the common room; or meeting Alfie in the kitchens! She ties to soak up every minute she can with her friends. During a Hogsmeade weekend, thanks to Professor Skeeter, Gemma meets up with a local herbologist and secures and apprenticeship for after graduation! That’s a huge weight off her shoulders; nobody would survive Gemma being a debutante. Her debut goes about as expected; she avoids dancing as much as she can, but still managed to absolutely demolish a refreshments table during a turn with Mr. Orpheus Parkinson. Whoops. Nobody ever called her graceful. Fortunately her NEWT results are not as bas as she anticipated! This summer her father suffers a heart attack and subsequently retires from his position as hospital director. Relieved that he is alright, Gemma isn’t so sure that having everybody under one roof all of the time will be a good idea. ACADEMIC RECORD
[1886-Present] | Gemma continues to work through her apprenticeship that will conclude in the summer of 1888 with a traveling expedition of which she is beyond excited about. She keeps in touch with her friends as best she can, but it seems she just can’t avoid running into Alfie thanks to her clumsiness and his position as a mediwizard.
