Appearance:
Standing at a modest height of 5’4” and weighing around 128lbs., Marianne is in possession of a rather well-rounded figure, being neither too plump nor too thin, with soft curves and ample-sized breasts. Humble in nature, Mary finds her wavy mid-length brown hair and gentle brown eyes to be unremarkable at best - which may be true, but it’s the little things - such as the sweetness of her expression, her warm smile, the subtle pinkness to her cheeks, and the humble way with which she carries herself - that brings life to her appearance. When not in Healer’s robes (as she is most of the time), Marianne’s wardrobe could be described as modest and befitting for a woman of her station and financial means, and she has a particular preference for lighter colors compared to darker ones. Her first engagement ring from Jesse hangs on a chain around her neck that she rarely takes off. Lastly, she wields a wand with her right hand.
History:
AUTUMN OF 1865 | After nearly eight years of marriage and a history of unsuccessful pregnancies, Mr. and Mrs. Erasmus Burdon were finally blessed with their first and only surviving child, a daughter they had named Marianne Maeve, after her maternal grandmother. The child was deemed healthy and robust, and the two couldn’t have been more happier.

WINTER OF 1865 | Having always been of fragile health - especially so after the birth of her daughter - Mary’s mother contracts a severe bout of pneumonia in the middle of November, and despite everyone’s combined efforts to revive her back to health, passed away a few days before Christmas, leaving her husband a widower and her only surviving child motherless.

WINTER OF 1866 | Aggrieved by the unexpected passing of his wife and feeling unequal to the task of parenthood - and also most likely resenting his daughter for the hand she played in his wife’s failing health - Erasmus placed Mary into the care of her paternal grandparents in the New Year, leaving the bulk of her raising into their capable hands as he completed missionary work.

YEAR OF 1869 | Mary was four when she first started displaying signs of magic. Little incidences - such as a candle that refused to go out when Mary was afraid of the dark or when Grandmother Burdon’s rose garden bloomed much earlier than anyone had expected - that sometimes confused and baffled her grandparents, though never made them suspect that it had anything to do with their only granddaughter.

YEAR OF 1870 | At five, Mary was deemed old enough to receive an education, and was enrolled in a schoolhouse in the village that she attended with several other children. While she had always been fond of stories and being read to, it was a wonderful thing once she was taught how to read for herself, and had proved herself a quick learner where reading, writing, and English were concerned.

YEAR OF 1873 | Mary was eight when word of her father’s untimely passing - a result of typhoid fever - had reached their ears. Having started to become closer to her father in recent years, Mary had been saddened by his death, and had established a weekly tradition of paying respects to her parents’ graves. As was stated in his will, her grandparents were given sole custody of Mary until she came of age.

YEAR OF 1877 | Mary and her grandparents were given the shock of their lives when it was revealed that not only was she a witch, but that she was also eligible to attend a magical boarding school, as well. Having been very wary of it at first - as the very idea of magic existing was a fantastical notion, and also went against their religious teachings - it was Mary’s desire to pursue a Hogwarts education that made her grandparents (reluctantly) relent to the scheme, though despite this, they never did quite warm up to the idea that Mary was a witch and were always a bit uncomfortable when she spoke about it.

SEPTEMBER 1877 - MAY 1878 | Excited by the prospect of learning an entirely new culture as well as the thought of learning magic, Mary had soaked up everything she could about the Wizarding World during her first year, proving herself rather well-suited in Ravenclaw. Magical Theory and History of Magic were the subjects that she excelled in that year, though Potions, Herbology, and Charms weren’t far behind. She had also struck up a friendship with two other girls in her year - Elsie Beauregard in Gryffindor and Temerita Reid in Hufflepuff.

SEPTEMBER 1878 - MAY 1879 | At the behest of one of her classmates (and her grandparents, surprisingly, who thought their granddaughter should participate more instead of burying herself in her studies), Mary joined the Garden and Potions clubs.

SEPTEMBER 1879 - MAY 1880 | Mary picked up Earth Magic, Ancient Studies, and Muggle Studies as her OWL electives. She had enjoyed all three equally, though particularly Earth Magic and Muggle Studies, having found it interesting to study the non-magical from a wizarding perspective.

SEPTEMBER 1880 - MAY 1881 | At fifteen, Mary had begun her monthly courses over the holiday break of her fourth year. She had been told (in the gentlest terms possible) by her grandmother that she was now a woman.

SEPTEMBER 1881 - MAY 1882 | Having had no previous desire to become Prefect, Mary had been perfectly happy to allow her dorm mate, Miss Fortuna Lockhart, to assume the role. As her professors piled on the workload in preparation for OWLs, Mary contemplated her future, finding the idea of becoming a Healer to be a worthwhile pursuit.

SEPTEMBER 1882 - MAY 1883 | Although Mary had always known of Jesse Hatchitt - a Quidditch-playing Ravenclaw in the year above her - from their years of attending class together, it wasn’t until her sixth year that they were officially introduced to each other, and Mary had found herself taking quite a liking to him. By the end of the year, it was clear that they were smitten, and Mary had thought it grievously unfair that they were only allowed one year together before Jesse graduated at the end of May.

Mary studied Charms, DADA, Earth Magic, Herbology, Potions, and Transfiguration at NEWT-level.

SUMMER OF 1883 | Having decided that Healing was most definitely what she wanted to pursue after Hogwarts, Mary took advantage of the Beauregards’ kind offer to house her during the summer, and worked an internship at Hogsmeade Hospital. Between work and finding time to spend with Jesse, the summer had passed in a whirlwind and before Mary knew it, it was September 1st again.

SEPTEMBER 1883 - MAY 1884 | Now into her seventh and final year, Mary had focused heavily upon her NEWT studies, wanting to do well enough to receive admittance as a Healer upon leaving Hogwarts. Though the year had also saw excitement (and surprise!), as well, when Jesse had, in not so many words though it was implied, practically proposed marriage to her on her birthday! A romantic at heart, she had accepted, and has hardly removed the claddagh ring since it was first given to her - even after Jesse had presented her with a more formal proposal, she still wears her first engagement ring on a chain around her neck.

SUMMER OF 1884 | Soon after graduating and making her debut, Mary went straight to work at Hogsmeade Hospital, fulfilling the remainder of her six month internship in July. Though the summer wasn’t without its challenges, and the Laughing Plague followed by Fiendfyre of 1884 gave Mary her first official taste of her chosen career.

YEAR OF 1885 | Mary was promoted to a full-fledged Potion & Plant Poisoning Healer in the spring. She was very excited by this development.

YEARS 1885 - 1886 | After a Quidditch injury had left him rather shaken, Jesse had once again proposed marriage to her - this time, in a more proper fashion - and they had eloped in October with Miss Elsie Beauregard as witness. They had then moved into a comfortable two-bedroom apartment in South Bartonburg, with Mary continuing her work at the hospital and Jesse now working as a Ministry employee.

Unsurprisingly, married life seems to agree with Mary, even if she does sometimes feel guilty for working so much.

YEAR OF 1887 - PRESENT | Her grandfather’s health begins failing, and Mary worries that she might not have much time left with him.

Personality:
ISFJ. A modest woman with a kind heart and a sweet temper, Marianne is a hardworking individual with the goal of helping as many people as she can through her healing and potioneering skills. While she is a thorough romantic at heart and an avid daydreamer, her sense of realism and practicality keeps her grounded, and she’s able to keep her focus on what she wants. Marianne is also an organized person, paying attention to the littlest details and ensuring that nothing goes remiss (and has a tendency to experience anxiety when it does), two things that had taught her to be disciplined in her work habits. Lastly, she loves what she does and feels confident that Healing was the right path for her, and it’s because of this mindset that she often comes across as a fairly happy and chipper person.
Other:
-- Her patronus form is a doe.
-- Her amortentia smells like potion herbs, her grandmother’s homemade baking, and Jesse.
-- Her boggart at the moment is of losing her grandfather, as he is sick.
-- She has a sweet singing voice, and is often in the habit of singing while she bustles about (particularly when she’s alone). She is also a fair piano player, and can read sheet music.
-- In addition to music, her hobbies also include reading (works of fiction mostly, but some nonfiction regarding her work, as well), gardening, healing, and sewing/embroidery.
-- Due to her line of work, she is an able potioneer and has an extensive knowledge of Herbology/plant medicinal uses.
