With November being a busy month for me, I've tried to consider the ways I could tackle this NaNo problem. Here are some of the strategies I've considered:

• Post count > word count. It seems more difficult, but I tend to have a rapid-fire style of posting anyways, so it could work assuming I (1) had the muse, and (2) found the right thing to rapid fire.
  
• Word count > post count. I tend to be less motivated to post long things, which would make it hard to get even 20 posts if I gave myself a minimum of 500 words per most. It would probably be less time-consuming in the long run, but quantity posting requires more ~focus~ so I don't zone out and begin rambling.
  
• Open threads vs. private threads. The former is assuming someone takes the open thread, a factor that could break me if no one did. The latter assumes that my thread partners have the time (or are using said character for their NaNo), which seems like a good idea but there's also the matter of character compatibility/"what will we even thread about?"

Now I'm curious: What is your NaNo strategy?

My strategy was "gee, MJ's using Ishmael who is romantically/sexually entangled with this character of mine and she tends to get long posts outta me. Also: Monty has a past with Kieran and is part of a group of played characters (the revs). Yes."

Sweetie is my 'deep' character. I tend to get long, thoughtful posts out of her as she overthinks her life. Though, she could definitely use more threads.

I find opens for this only really work if 1) they’re with someone who is going to reply because Nano, or 2) they’re an excellent poster. So not me basically :p I do agree with Bee that they’re more of a back-up option but I’d say that was true in general.

I wouldn’t worry about changing your posting style either. There’s a word count true, but for myself I’d be more likely to reply to a quality 200 post than a 600 one with lots of deep feelings but nothing to go off for a reply. That’s just me though! And shorter posts add up and lead to a much more enjoyable, less stressful Nano!

What everyone else said. xD I would always say: stick to your usual style & how you work best. Don't bother forcing out a "minimum" count for any post. Either way is achievable!
Also:
— Do more on your days off. You only need 333 words/day to win, but after a tiring full day of work/life etc even that much might be a struggle, so when you have a slot of free time or just a burst of muse, do as much as you possibly can at once in a nice big chunk (if that's rapid-firing for you, or whatever) to get a nice boost for the days you do less.  
— Do all the starters. Whether you're doing an open or private thread, I find starters generally tend to be a little longer than the average post, just in terms of setting the scene. So. Start the threads.
— The more threads you have at once, the more likely you'll always have something to do/somewhere to owe, even if your partners reply more slowly! (This can... be less great in December so maybe don't start a million, but xD)

I would love to help you with your nano by offering a person but I'm not sure who of mine would be of most use to you! Obvs I'm using Ishmael if you have any ideas there, but I'm also totally down to use any of my characters if you can pick someone who might be fun(ny) to thread with Bella! <3

Mine is a bit odd since before I came to charming I was involved in rps with posts between 1000-5000 words each. However, since not everyone responds like that I tend to pick my character who needs the most development and internally rambles the most. I also live for starters since I know I can get between 500-1000 for a good developed starter.
Since November is busy for me every year I try to make sure I also pick someone I know other nanos are using. Since I know rapid posting is out the window for me this month.
If all else fails I post opens.
That being said, I'm making nano and nano related threads a priority so if you are in a thread with me and using your nano character. Just let me know and I'll priority post.
For Bella, I have Lucy. Also Galina. Who could be hunting her if youd like. If she ends up in London I have Asha

I've never done NaNo here before, so I'm going with my most versatile character who is the easiest to find a muse for. And I generally write longer posts with Billie! Also, I figured she would be good even just for random, fun encounters with anyone's NaNo characters. So, I could help ya there, Bree!

As for opens, I might do one or two this month.
