September, 1894 - Castle courtyard

It was cool and the leaves around the school were the wonderful autumn browns that signified that winter was approaching. Isla, no, Professor Bowen, wandered across the courtyard having just left a meeting with faculty to finalise the details of her entry to the school. She was very pleased to have been given this job having been told prior that might be an uphill climb for such a prestigious role given her youth and gender, but here she was.

She spotted someone, another woman new to her role as a professor here, she thought she recognised the name from school but couldn't be certain. They had not been friends so she could quite easily been misremembering. Her plan was to have a little exploration of the shared grounds to familiarise herself and what better way to do that than with another potentially lost new hire. She straightened up her coat and called over.

"Professor Crowley." she said warmly, recognising the woman more clearly now she had a face to put to the name, she had such a pale countenance to her and was slightly eerie, but Isla knew it was never kind to address someone's peculiarities. "Isla Bowen, new charms professor. You probably don't remember me, I think I was a couple of years below you when we were here last." She extended her hand to shake in the gentlemanly fashion.

Morrigan Crowley exited the castle into the courtyard, where the yellow sunlight of a fading summer's afternoon beat on her face and strained her pale eyes. The last details of her appointment to the school were finalized in the meeting she just left, and she stood in the square of ancient stone for a moment and looked up to the many towers and spires.

A woman approached her. She was blonde and well-put-together and wore a light coat. Morrigan wore an absurd black dress. She put her hand in the woman's with barely any pressure, like it was a fragile curio of alabaster that she gave her for safekeeping. "Good afternoon, Professor Bowen," she replied. "It is a flock of new arrivals this year," she said. Half the faculty was turning over. "A flock of what kind, is the question." It could be a murder of crows, but Professor Bowen was rather bright-looking for a corvid.

The woman was a curious sort, ethereal and somewhat strange-looking, Isla did not mind this at all, it took all sorts in this magical world. She did wonder though whether her recollection of the girl was right from school as she felt the quirky woman in front of her would stick out even more than she did in her mind.

She raised an eyebrow and the corner of her lips at the question. "I think would prefer a flock of songbirds. I plan on taking a little walk around the grounds? Care to join?" She would either lead the way through a small archway out of the courtyard or she would stay to talk. "You shall be teaching ancient studies yes? I would be fascinated to know your opinion on a few academic papers I was exposed to in the summer." She had quietly helped discredit the author's opinions on a few Sumerian charms. They could talk more professionally later, but she would like to know the other professor a little bit more. "What have you been up to in the years since school?" she asked as they enjoyed the setting together.
