Hi folks! I think I mentioned this in the Cbox or Discord or something but I've got a few ~upcoming character ideas, none of which can be combined :P So I am looking for connections/plot ideas related to any of them to help me decide which one(s) to follow through on. Any of these are probably a December project (post Nano).
Assume in all cases that a) a lot of things are flexible; b) pre-existing characters (with or without retconning) are ten times more valuable than new ones, I'm willing to flex a lot to make preexisting characters work!
Without further ado, the OPTIONS: (I am naming them for ease of reference not because I've actually picked names - except Topaz obviously).
OPTION A: JONAS. Jonas is UC or MC, at least 35 (could also be much older), and an Unspeakable. He is either a confirmed bachelor or on his way there. He participates in society but only in the male-centric parts (he's the guy who sits down for cards three seconds into the ball and stays there all night). He's the family heir and has arranged marriages for at least two sisters so far. He's SUPER gay and at least a little in love with each of his brothers-in-law (unreciprocated — they just think he's a cool, if odd, dude). Might also have unmarried sisters who he will also be intending to arrange marriages for.
WHAT JONAS NEEDS IN ORDER TO LIVE:
— family connections: played sisters (who are in or could be in arranged marriages in the future - that sort of family vibe) or played brothers-in-law (the sorts who wouldn't be opposed to arranging marriages peer-to-peer. They can have met and liked and perhaps even courted the women first, but wouldn't have actually proposed as that would have been handled between them and Jonas, and initiated by Jonas).
— failing that, potential future brothers-in-law could work also. So men who are currently bachelors but would otherwise fit the category above.And are handsome/charming.
OPTION B: TOPAZ @"Topaz Urquart" is obviously a character with a history, and I've already talked about her plot hooks. More details...
WHAT TOPAZ NEEDS IN ORDER TO LIVE:
— the face: ideally a woman Topaz reasonably suspects she'll be able to acquire hair from on the reg, meaning she should be a resident of Hogsmeade or London — even more ideal if she has a job in a a customer-facing role so Topaz could try and hunt her down at work and grab stray hairs. Not someone who works in the Ministry. Not someone who is "Witch Weekly famous." Don't come at me with your NPC cousins here, the whole point is that this is a person who would care about potential rumors that they were in weird places doing weird things, and react to that. The plot direction here is totally open!
— Other plot hooks: London-based folks, what needs could a young werewolf fill for you?
OPTION C: SEBASTIAN Born to the middle or upper class, Sebastian was disowned as a teen or young man and subsequently fell to the WC. He was taken in by a UC/MC friend — but as staff, not as charity. He has since risen to the position of head butler. The fact that he was disowned is common knowledge but the reason isn't. I'm flexible on his age but he can't be like 22 if he's head butler :P
WHAT SEBASTIAN NEEDS TO LIVE:
— a natal family — the sort who would be very uncool with discovering their son in the arms of a WC male lover
but also inclined not to share that story. Siblings could also fit here and if so even they might not know why he was disowned.
— An employer; the man would be around his age as they were friends in Hogwarts. They are friendly now, though at certain points in the past Sebastian has overstepped and been reminded of his "place" by the employer — lessons he takes to heart now.
— The Former Lover. Same/similar age. Also works in domestic service. Sebastian hasn't forgiven him (yet) for getting him disowned, so their current relationship is antagonistic (using their employers as proxies for their ongoing spats).
