Vampire Strikes Hogsmeade
Wealthy Restauranteer Taken In Broad Daylight

Yesterday, French restauranteer Mr. Jean-Claude Baudelaire disappeared from his Hogsmeade establishment. Due to the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, he is currently believed to be dead, although no body has yet been found.

He was last sighted by a restaurant patron speaking with a small, pale woman with fair hair in the alley separating his restaurant from the neighboring buildings. The time was approximately 4 in the afternoon. The woman's features were obscured by very conservative clothing, but the witness made particular note of the paleness of her skin. Although there was still some light at this hour, the setting sun would have made it easy for an appropriately dressed vampire to move through town. The pair were observed in the shadows.

The exact fate of Mr. Baudelaire is uncertain. Staff at the restaurant have speculated that he may have been killed in the alley and then his body may have been removed, but aurors have found no traces of blood at the scene. If he left the area alive, it is unclear why he would have chosen to do so.

There have already been questions in Hogsmeade about whether our residents are safe from the nearby vampire caverns, and this latest disappearance makes the question seem all the more urgent.

The Department of Magical Law Enforcement issued a statement saying they are currently investigating Mr. Baudelaire's disappearance, and are not ruling anything out at this point. Auror Arthur McPadraic has been assigned as the lead investigator for the case. McPadraic has a long history in the department, as well as a family history in law enforcement reaching back several generations. This case also comes close to his heart, as he was reportedly a friend of the missing Mr. Baudelaire.

London vampire and funeral home director Ms. Blossom Spinnakers said she was appalled by news of Mr. Baudelaire's disappearance. "I am disgusted. Vampires have grown to be far more civilized than hunting people down. We were all once human, how can they forget that? People willingly donate to the Ministry or my business. Honest, safe, moral ways to obtain blood. Self-control isn't a fantasy, and I am tired of some vampires using such an excuse to justify violence. None of the vampires who are under my employ are even permitted to live in a cave. Hence why they are paid money for rent and to save up for new clothing when needed. Hogsmeade vampires, I feel, should get their act together."

Whether the problem is limited to Hogsmeade remains to be seen.
