Family:
Eunice Vablatsky née -----, Mother [1840-1880] — Were my mother alive, Father never would have gotten away with using Dora as he is. Though soft-spoken, she was the one person who could ever properly rein him in.
@"Micajah Vablatsky", Twin [1858] — What he lacks in seer potential, my brother makes up for in
Cassandra Vablatsky, Sister [1861] — My father’s hope for the current generation, Cassie could not abide the pressure and obliviated herself after failing her Divination OWL. She now lives in my ward at St. Mungo’s. Though incredibly dotty, she’s a gifted chess player.
Apollodora Vablatsky, Sister [1865] — After I “squandered” my gifts, my brother was shown not to have any, and Cassandra had her…accident, Father focused his attentions entirely upon young Dora. I don’t know if she’s actually gifted beyond academia, but she is being touted as an exceptional naming seer.
Gideon Vablatsky, Uncle [1835-1884] — Uncle Gideon convinced himself that Hags were the answer to the “seer question” and found himself one to marry. He died of the laughing plague.
— Cassandra “Fern” Vablatsky, Cousin [1865]
— Gideon Vablatsky, Cousin [1870]
Cassandra Jameshill née Vablatsky, Aunt [1830] — a much more sensible branch of the family, at least in comparison.
— Charles Jameshill, Uncle [1817]
— Lupus Jameshill, Cousin [1853-1881]
— Amity ----- née Jameshill, Cousin [1861], and family
— Theodoric Jameshill, Cousin [1866]
Cassandra Vablatsky née Vablatsky, Great-Grandmother [1765-1872] — The last properly “great” seer to be born into my family. In the interest of breeding more seers, her family married her to her cousin, the Diviniation professor at Hogwarts at the time. They spent almost their entire married life arguing about how he would die; she said he would go in his sleep by the age of sixty and he was convinced all signs pointed to a death of dragon pox after turning one hundred. Never one to lose an argument, she stabbed him to death on the eve of his sixtieth birthday. I was always wary of her after hearing that story.

History: In my first memory, I’m being forcefed copious amounts of tea by my father. I’m not alone, of course—in this, as all things, my father was quite insistent that my brother and I be as one. Twin oracles, he always said, greater seers than even his grandmother. My first prediction, though not born of any actual ability, was that my brother would never make a prediction. I was right.
My family hailed from Birmingham where we always had a leg on each side of the fence. Though a third generation witch, my mother remained active in the local Jewish community. My father, a Ministry worker, dealt heavily in the magical world, and The Reigning Cassandra (at the time) was hauled out to name children among the more superstitious of my mother’s friends.
Yes, the reigning Cassandra. The first seer in the family, or so we were told, named his daughter Cassandra after the famed seer of myth in the hopes that his gift could be passed down. It’s now a tradition in the family—if you’re the eldest daughter, you’re a Cassandra.
Our Cassandra came when I was three. I don’t remember much of anything that far back—save for the tea—but I do remember how pleased she made my mother, and how hopeful my father. It was not until Apollodora (three guesses where that name came from) was born that anyone in my generation had a prophecy. It was not my brother (eager to please) or my sister (a Cassandra) but me, who would rather have been in the garden or pretending to be a knight than doing anything vaguely related to telling the future. I foretold that the next Vablatsky born would bring nothing but disappointment to the family, and five months later came Fern. I’ve made only one proper prophecy since then. I don’t remember it, as is often the way, but it’s stored in the Hall of Prophecy somewhere.
When we set off for Hogwarts, I found myself in Hufflepuff while my brother was placed in Ravenclaw (as Cassandra later would be). It was my first opportunity to truly be separate from my brother—as father had not yet given up hope that Micajah could be a seer—and I revelled in it. For two years I saw no pressure from my family (save for during the holidays, of course) but that came to an end in third year when, with reluctance, I joined my brother in signing up for Divination. I was only permitted to drop it after my OWLs by reminding my father that I already had the gift—a fact which continued to cause strife between myself and my brother.
During my time at Hogwarts I received no accolades. I was happy not to stand out—I did not want the duties of a prefect, the pressure of house quidditch, or the responsibilities of club president. I was happy to serve as chaser on a club team, to discuss gardening without leading the discussion. That did not mean I held no ambition, simply that the spotlight was not the place for me.
Upon completion of my schooling, I signed up for an internship at St Mungo’s. Though at time it caused further tension between my father and myself, after Cassie’s accident he became convinced that it must have been my gifts that led me there so that I might better care for her. They didn’t, but at least he’s off my back about it.
