Jules Wright vs. Malcorvus Flint
#1
24th July, 1892 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic
He had seen the younger Mr. Flint duel earlier in the tournament, but the elder Mr. Flint was clearly the more proficient, if he had beaten his son already. Mr. Wright was more of an unknown; they would see.

After reiterating the rules, Evander stepped back and informed Mr. Wright that he might cast first.

Jules listened to the rules and wondered if it was truly necessary to repeat the rules before every match. They probably would've come this far without even knowing the rules to dueling right? He bowed to his opponent and raised his wand, ready to begin.

He did not know his opponent and he was still feeling the remnants of his previous duel. His eye would sometimes randomly throb, reminding him of the painful ordeal. Deciding that he would not repeat that mistake this duel he smiled at his opponent.

Once he finished the appropriate pleasantries Jules flicked his wand, casting a spell that would cause his opponent to neither hear nor see anything for a couple of minutes.

Malcorvus didn't know much about his next opponent, a man who appeared quite a bit younger than his son. Whoever he was Malcorvus doubted he had anywhere near his level of experience when it came to dueling. Still, it never paid to be overconfident so he had no intention of taking it easy on Mr. Wright.

He bowed before his opponent as was expected then moved into a combat posture, wand at the ready. As he watched Mr. Wright do his own bow of respect Malcorvus noted something odd about one of the man's eyes, signs of a recent injury perhaps? Either way it was worth noting and taking advantage of.

Using a non-verbal spell he twirled and flicked his wand in a quick serious of movements to cast what appeared to be a ghostly hand which appeared on Mr. Wright's blind side. With a final movement of his wand, he sent the hand hurling towards his opponent with enough force to knock him off his feet.

Wright's spell hit Flint, however – the older man, with almost preternatural ability, had conjured a ghostly hand which had continued to do his bidding and threw Wright to the ground.

Evander made sure both spells were ended, and the hand dissolved into the air, before announcing: "The first round to Mr. Flint, who may cast next."

Having his sight and hearing momentarily removed wasn't something Malcorvus enjoyed at all. Fortunately he didn't need either to complete his spell and successfully knock over his opponent. Darrow removed the spell's effect before Malcorvus could do it himself and gave him the point.

Malcorvus inclined his head towards his opponent once he was able to see again as a show of respect his spell did succeed in doing what he hoped. To many losing their sight even for a short period of time could be disorienting but Malcorvus was far too experienced a wizard to let it distract him.

Once Mr. Wright was ready Malcorvus prepared his next spell. This time he decided on something quick and difficult to deflect, sending a series of sticky web-like tendrils at Jules, designed to both bind and obscure vision.

Jules was elated when he saw that his spell hit it's target, but that happiness only lasted a few seconds before he suddenly felt a big force knocking Jim to the ground. His opponent had used his blind side to conjure a huge hand to throw him over.

Jules got back to his feet, rubbing the place on his hip where he landed on the floor. After the hearing and sight of mister Flint returned, Jules raised his wand once more. He had to win this round, or he'd lose the duel.

The moment Jules saw his opponent flicking his wand he also flicked his wand, conjuring a massive colony of bats. If successful, they would form both a protective shield to protect him as well as move towards his opponent to obscure his vision and possibly harm him.

Both spells (unnecessarily eerie, if Evander did say so himself) made him flinch slightly, but the cloud of bats did nothing to stave off Flint's next spell. In fact, all Wright's conjuration did were congregate on the ceiling and then begin to divebomb the audience and him, so it was a few moments later that Evander could straighten up and announce the result.

(After the horde of bats, he wasn't particularly quick about loosing Mr. Wright from the spiderweb binds, but...) "Mr. Flint wins the duel."
