Bethel knows she is not the prettiest woman around; she’s too tall, at a little over 6 foot, for starters. She’s narrow and gangly as well, having never grown into any semblance of a womanly figure. Her skin is pale and her hair – which is long, fine, straight and a platinum-blonde – is actually starting to streak a true, snowy white already (like an old wizened women). Even her brows and lashes are pale enough to stand out against her skin. She hides her hair in a braided bun most days. As if to match her fragile complex, her eyes are a pale, icy blue. She was originally ambidextrous in terms of her wand hand, but primary school forced her to pick her a dominant hand; she settled on her left. She tries to wear clothes that are in style, wanting to look professional, but buys less expensive options due to a childhood of watching her mother budget to make ends meet; she always wears fashionable bonnets and caps where possible, as she is prone to sunburn and wishes to hide how her hair is loosing color.
July 1865 || The couple have their first child, welcoming Ramsay Faron into the family.
December 1865 || There is a miscarriage; Jeremiah fears for Eirian’s health. The couple decide to wait until she is better to try again.
December 1866 || The couple have their first and only daughter, Bethel Eirian; Bethel is a sickly babe, however, and Jeremiah and Eririan make the costly move to Manchester in search of good medical attention for their daughter from the Wizarding community there.
March 1871 || Bethel shows her first proclivity towards magic; Ramsay, during a tantrum, knocks over one of the few books their father owns and Bethel catches it before it lands on the damp floor. It hovers in the air for a moment.
September 1875 || Ramsay, having been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, heads off to school; he is sorted into Slytherin. Eirian announces she is expecting once more.
August 1876 || Eirian miscarries again; Bethel cares for her sick mother while her father goes off to work. Ramsay is able to get the Full Academic Scholarship for his grades and returns to Hogwarts for further education.
June 1877 || Muggles discover the Wizarding World; Eirian and Jeremiah’s neighbors turn on them and they flee their flat in the slums of Manchester in the night. They join the migration of wizarding families to the newly established Hogsmeade.
September 1877 || Bethel is a few months too young to go to Hogwarts; she watches Ramsay depart once more, having kept his scholarship. Bethel begins to notice her father’s breathing is growing labored, but her mother advises her not to mention it.
June 1878 || Bethel ends up on the wrong end of a gaggle of slum children; she is bullied often. Ramsay helps when he feels like it, but is of the opinion that she should stand up for herself. This harassment carries on through the summer – Bethel is too scared to tell her parents, who are struggling to make ends meet.
September 1878 || Bethel attends Hogwarts and is sorted into Hufflepuff; she begins to show signs of hysteria, as her large classes and the crowded banquet call makes her nervous (and, rarely, physically ill). She is bullied periodically at school as well; she’s scared to tell anyone, especially Ramsay as he focuses on his coming O.W.Ls.
January 1879 || Eirian manages to land a job at Hogsmeade Hospital, as a Junior Healer of Spell Damage. Jeremiah gets a better job as a shop worker.
September 1879 || Bethel returns to Hogwarts; Ramsay continues to hold onto his Scholarship. Bethel feels the pressure to do as well as her brother, which causes more odd behaviors to manifest (stammering, nail biting, and even some vapors).
August 1880 || Jeremiah’s health decline becomes progressively worse; it is found his lungs are ruined from his days working in a muggle factory. He turns to drinking.
September 1880 || Bethel does not return to Hogwarts; Ramsay does, talking about becoming an Auror. She finds work as an employee at the Owl Emporium and adds her income to the family pool. Jeremiah continues to drink away his paycheck – Eirian and Bethel keep the family afloat.
December 1880 || Jeremiah and Ramsay have a falling out – Jeremiah is not a violent drunk, thankfully, but the sound of their argument (and those that follow over the holiday season) start to visibly affect Eirian’s health.
March 1881 || Jeremiah tries to convince Ramsay to leave Hogwarts for his own safety after muggleborn students vanish from Hogwarts. Ramsay rebuffs him and Jeremiah flees at the Minister’s decree.
April 1881 || Eirian has another miscarriage; Jeremiah returns home, but does not given up his daily bottle of spirits. Ramsay is distant and Bethel is suffering in silence under the strain of her fraying home life.
August 1881 || A young half-blood fourth year shows interest in Bethel; he greets her often in his visits to the Owl Emporium during that summer and Bethel is hopeful for a match. He makes her blush with his compliments and is kind; she knows marrying for love isn’t common, but he makes her long for it nonetheless.
September 1881 || Her potential suitor stops visiting; Ramsay bluntly informs her via owl that her loverboy has moved onto another middle class student in his own year. It is a sad time for the family; Jeremiah laments on the loss of a son-in-law often and within earshot of his daughter, which makes her skin crawl. Eirian tries to keep her daughter’s hopes up for more matches, but Bethel is no longer eager.
Winter 1881 || Jeremiah drops dead during a closing shift at the shop. The family is informed that night; Eirian is heartbroken and sends for Ramsay, who is excused from Hogwarts to return home. Bethel is shaken by the terrifying future looming over the family.
Spring 1882 || Eirian has twin boys, Sawl Jeremiah and Finley Radcliff. Bethel has to quit her job at the Emporium to tend to her weak mother and help with the boys. Ramsay passes his N.E.W.Ts and manages to enter the Auror training program. Eirian seems to get better; Bethel finds a job at Whizzhard Books and Eirian turns to part-time work as well.
August 1883 || Hogsmeade hosts the Quidditch World cup and Bethel gains a new interested gentleman – an older fellow off the national French team. He makes her uncomfortable, but she doesn’t have to the spine ward him off. Ramsay disapproves when she writes to him about it but Eirian is becoming steadily distant with her older children. France loses, though, and her possible suitor vanishes as quickly as he came; Ramsay is happy and, to her surprise, Bethel is somewhat too.
July 1884 || The Laughing Plague passes through and strikes Eirian due to her blood purity; Bethel is forced to watch her mother's health deteriorate in the midst of maddening cackles. Then the fire sweeps through High Street and Bethel locks herself and the twins away at the simple prospect of Ramsay being caught in the blaze; she has a small breakdown under the strain and stress of the situation. When she finally pulls herself together for her little brothers and comes out the next day, her mother Eirian is dead.
August 1884 || Ramsay and Bethel agree over the issue of who will take care of their brothers. The agreement follows: Bethel will withhold from working again until the boys are six and will be open to more suitors as she carries for the two; Ramsay will take them as send home half of his salary in return and will look for suitable matches for Bethel.
Fall 1884 || Bethel has two interested working class bachelors come and go; the main reason for their loss of interest is the fact that she takes care of her older brother’s wards.
Winter 1884 || Ramsay and Bethel argue and she returns to work part-time, finding employment at a local library. Between the two of them and their combined income, Ramsay begins to talk about moving up in the world. The slums are no longer good enough for his family.
1885 || The scare at the Ministry has Bethel agreeing to move closer to a middle class district, if only to be closer to Ramsay, but does not actually do so. She manages to continue fending off Ramsay’s persistence with promises of looking "soon".
1886 || Bethel and Ramsay argue over her want to move into the newly built, working class neighborhood of Pennyworth. Ramsay thinks they make enough to move into a middle class neighborhood, but she manages to persuade him to settle for an area of Pennyworth that’s close to Bartonburg South.
Summer 1887 || A weight is lifted off Bethel’s shoulder when the Wizarding World officially reconciles with the Queen and the muggle world; Sawyl displays his first signs of magic by levitating an inkwell and quill over to Bethel one night as she works out the coming week’s budget. Finley throws a tantrum when he cannot do similarly.
Spring 1888 || During a trip to High Street, though, she overhears from shopping neighbors talking; one of the older widows has apparently been talking about why she was unmarried. She could only listen for so long as the chatty women talked about her looks and disposition as well as coming spinsterhood. It was a painful blow, both to her reputation and self-esteem.
Summer 1888 || Bethel hears of the Librarian job at Hogwarts opening – she sees this as a chance to get the money needed to put her little brothers through Hogwarts no matter what their academics are like. Ramsay, now a full Auror, agrees to stand behind her fully to her surprise. The family moves from a flat in Pennyworth to an actual house.
Fall 1888 || Bethel is hired as the Librarian at Hogwarts. Finley asks her why her hair is turning white a week after – Bethel is horrified to realize he’s right and goes to a healer at St. Mutgo’s for help. She is told it is a rare, albeit natural thing that does occur to some people her age and the only thing to be done about it is a polyjuice potion to keep her hair blonde. She can’t justify that kind of money on vanity, however, and just hopes it does not get worse too fast. When the Fog crisis abates, Finley finally shows his proclivity for magic by causing Sawyl to trip while playing tag.
1889 || Bethel settles in her job at Hogwarts, finding her peace among the books; social events at the school force her to start socializing again, however, – something she’d managed to avoid after being called a spinster – and her hysterics and vapors come creeping back, worse than before. Without survival and family or money problems looming overhead, it becomes impossible to ignore this fragile, pessimistic part of her mind. She becomes minorly infamous among the Hogwarts support staff for being prone to nail biting and stammers when overwhelmed or taken off guard.
Spring 1890 || Ramsay and Bethel have an argument that dissolves into him crying; the stress of it all has gotten to them. The two promise each other to try and be better siblings, to be there for each other as well as Sawyl and Finley.
Fall 1890 || Bethel has a spell of vapors after a bout of hysterics; she became overwhelmed during that year’s sorting ceremony by the sheer number of people in the banquet hall: it felt like the walls had closed in on her, with no exit in sight until she grew faint. When she comes to, only a few kindly house elves and a couple members of the support staff have noticed and, thankfully, kept her from making a scene. She begins to try and go out of her way to treat the house elves better, albeit quietly.

Sample Roleplay Post:
The Library would be empty today; outside it’s safe walls and shelves and aisles, Bethel felt both exposed and very, very small. Going to a Coming Out Ball should not be this stressful… And shouldn’t it get better the more of them she went to? She fidgeted with her new turban hat Ramsay had sent early for her birthday, not wanting a hair to be out of place. She was one of the few members of Hogwarts staff that was from the working class and she, quite honestly, feared every social event the school hosted. Especially ones that involved staff mingling; chaperone duties at student events weren’t too terrible, as she could at least pretend she wasn’t dying from just being in a crowded room, and she could at least comfort herself in the fact that the children were trying to actively ignore the staff. And while it was unlikely anyone would be openly unkind, it was the exact fact that sometimes she struggled to read between the lines that made her worry; what if she was being mocked behind her back? It'd happened before. Her chest and throat tightened at the idea of snide, malicious comments made at her expense–especially if it was done to her face and she was wont to realize until later.
She then turned to running her palms over her dress, trying to smooth out the pale lavender dress and its bustle. Deep breathes, she told herself, looking up, you’re just being silly. Her palms were so sweaty, but that shouldn’t matter; she was almost a spinster, so it was unlikely gentleman would be sauntering along to kiss her hand and give out compliments. Ugh, just the thought of someone’s lips touching her hands made her so glad that gloves were in style–and then, blinking, she realized she had yet to put hers on.
Drat, drat, drat. Getting distracted by hypothetical romantic ideas and social maybes; her mother would be disappointed in her lack of practicality. She twisted and snatched the pair out of where she’d shoved them into her skirt line. To think she almost walked off into public looking like that… Her eyes got a bit teary at the thought, feeling the strain of her mounting stress. Deep. Breaths. She inhaled deeply and slowly, quietly let it out.
She tugged her white gloves on and fingered the slightly darker violet embroidery playing across the fabric of her skirts. The urge to wring her hands and pick at any hang-nails -- existent or otherwise -- was only beaten down by the impulse to pick at her nails, but that was just another reason to be grateful for gloves.
She managed to swallow down the tightness in her throat enough to breathe more steadily. No fainting. Then she pushed her shoulders back, clasped her hands in front of her skirts and started off. Being late would look just as bad, she scolded herself, dread tugging her heart into the pit of her gut.
