He takes pride in his appearance, he is always clean shaven, with his blonde hair neatly combed. He has grey eyes, set below eyebrows that are a little darker than the rest of his hair. He dresses well, his shoes are always polished and shiny. He is left handed.
History: In 1863 Gregory Bennett married his school sweetheart Alice. They were both from pureblood working class families, both completely respectable. Gregory found work in the Household of a very wealthy household. His master was a very kind and gentle man. He deeply cared about his staff, though it would be incorrect to say he was friends with them, he was certainly friendly. Alice was, at first, a Housewife. And in the first year of their marriage she gave birth to Margaret. Though not long after that Alice's own mother, also called Alice, fell ill. Her husband had died a number of years back, and it was decided that she would come and live with the Bennetts. This made money very tight, and Alice went to work in the same household as her husband.
Edwin was born in 1865. He never knew his grandmother, she passed away only a year or so after arriving to live with the Bennetts, but she was a huge influence on him. For while she had stayed with the Bennetts she had passed on a deep love of Christ to her daughter and her son-in-law. His mother had never been interested in the pious musings of her mother, who had tried to bring her daughter back to Church ever since she had stopped attending on Sundays at 16, and seeing it happen made her last few months on earth ones of great joy. Edwin was brought up in a very religious household, and as he grew his belief grew deeper and more personal. The genuine religiosity of his parents also impressed their employer. He was a devout man himself, and hired Gregory as his new Valet. Gregory, or 'Bennett', as he would now be called was very proud. And the pay rise certainly helped!
When looking back on his childhood Edwin is very happy. He was surrounded by love, and although never rich his family was comfortable enough. Edwin was clearly a smart boy, and his family encouraged him, but could only do so much. One day, while taking with his master, Gregory mentioned Edwin's love of reading. So far his reading was mostly biblical, the family after all did not have much money spare to buy new books! His employer said Edwin could use the library as often as he liked. Gregory rushed home that evening, he could not wait to see the look on young Edwin's face, and he was not disappointed.
Not long after that he went off to Hogwarts. While his elder sister had been sorted into Hufflepuff he found himself in Ravenclaw. He loved his house! He found friends who shared his love of knowledge and reading, and he did very well in his first year. Enough to win a full scholarship for the next year. This would be the case in every subsequent year, and the reason he was able to complete his entire education. Edwin tried out for the Quiditch team, but was unsuccessful in his first year. It took until his third when he finally got on the team. A growth spurt over the summer holidays had helped, and he would be a beater for the rest of his time at Hogwarts. He loved it. He was good, certainly not great, but the best part was being in a close knit team.
He passed his OWL and NEWTs with excellent grades. His teachers mentioned Auror training, or perhaps the law. But Edwin wanted to be a historian. He loved books, he loved to write, and History of Magic and Ancient studies had been his passions. Once he graduated he found work as a junior Librarian in a small magical library. It was an interesting job, and in his spare time he researched his first book on Witches in Ancient Egypt. When his mother fell ill he returned home to help look after her. His father's employer paid for the medical fees, and offered Edwin a job as his personal librarian. Edwin took the job, mainly so he could be nearer his family.
Thank God his mother recovered. And Edwin had started to love the pattern of his life. He would work in the library, researching his own work, and come back to his family home at night. His first book was published when he was 20. It proved success and the royalties from the book helped him to rent his own place nearby. Almost immediately he began work on a second piece, this time looking at Magical communities in Ancient Nepal. It grew into a much larger piece, and he published volume one just after his 22nd birthday. It was around this time his mother started nagging him about finding a woman.
A friend of his saw an advert in the paper. Hogwarts was looking for a librarian! It seemed perfect, and he applied without hesitation. And he got it! He loves being back at the school, and the resources the library have are simply amazing!

Sample Roleplay Post: Edwin kissed his mother on the head. He noticed how much taller than her he was now. He towered over her thin 5'5'' frame. A tear rolled down her cheek as she said goodbye to her boy. He hugged her tightly. ''Don't worry Mother, I shall write often, and I will visit during the holidays. And, who knows, maybe I'll meet a nice girl to bring home, eh?'' She laughed at that, for a few years now she had pointedly mentioned that he remained unbetrothed. He turned to his father, and they hugged too. His father was not yet old, but he Edwin was noticing signs of ageing more than ever. His temples had gone grey, and his face was lined around the eyes and mouth. He was as tall and strong as ever though. He was one of the few men in his day to day life taller than Edwin.
''Now, you look after yourself son. And don't let those hoity toity upity Professors look down their noses at you, are we clear?''
Edwin chuckled. ''Yes, sir.''
