The latest announcement of their candidacy for Minister of Magic comes from Mr. Jude Wright, age 32. Upon his graduation from Slytherin, Mr. Wright joined the Ministry and trained as a lawyer. After a promising five years in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, he left the Ministry in favour of independent legal work and an apparent new focus on social justice.

In the intervening years, he has gained a reputation in the field of political activism, and is outspoken on a range of progressive causes. In 1885, Wright was a vocal public supporter of the Voting Reform Act which proposed to extend suffrage to all wizarding men regardless of wealth. A committed pamphleteer and demonstrator, he is a continued organiser of London’s annual May Day celebrations and rallies in support of workers’ rights, and equally has been associated with protests in defence of blood equality, halfbreed and non-human rights. He was also witnessed attending the rally for women’s suffrage held just last week.

Though born into wealth as the only son of an old halfblood family, Mr. Wright is notably distanced from his family and former upbringing. Now residing in central London, those in his social circles primarily hail from the working classes. This history and the contents of his authored pamphlets suggest a forthcoming campaign with a strong socialist leaning and a potentially radical platform. Whether there is an appetite amongst the voting population for such change remains to be seen.
