A (Minor) Broomstick Ban
Hogsmeade Bans Broom Flight Following Deaths, Injuries
Fliers watch out! In a special meeting of the Hogsmeade Village Council, it was decided to ban all flying within the Hogsmeade community borders, including Padmore Park, residential areas, and the High Street. The lone exception to this is a landing platform to be set up beside Hogsmeade Station at the edge of town; secure broom storage will be available for those who fly to the town. This decision was not taken lightly, but was due to recent injuries and even the tragic disappearance (presumed death) of Miss Sloane Bixby, sixteen, in the past fortnight.
These changes are effective midnight, 14th July 1893, and those who violate the new restriction face broom confiscation and up to two weeks in the cells of the Hogsmeade Constabulary.
When asked if there would be any further restriction on flying, Mr. Everett Grimm of the Broom Regulatory Office said, "In the interests of the safety of our children, we are considering restricting unsupervised, underaged broom flight." Further details were not available at the time of inquiry.
