October 5th, 1894 — Late Afternoon
Hogsmeade Weekend

While Quincy might not be a Gryffindor he was stupidly susceptible to taking on dares from his friends. The particular dare of the day was to climb to the roof of this building in Bartonburg South that was recently abandoned and supposedly haunted. Early in his climb he heard noises he thought were ghosts, but as he got higher all he heard was the wind.

Finally on the roof he went to look off the side and chuckled softly as he saw his friends who dared him running away for some reason. A reason he wanted nothing to do with so he ducked low and sat on the floor of the roof turning and looking over the roof and seeing Charley and whispered roughly “Get low Charley.“

Normally he’d of greeted her more properly and asked her how she was doing. Though, it was a question he was always scared to ask as her fate could just as easily be his. After all, if his family too was in the muggle world and he always had a slight worry when they took a bit longer than normal to respond to his letters - not that he had anything to worry about.

Saturday. It was the kind of autumn day that was only made for enjoying outdoors. Not much of a breeze, just enough to carry the scents of leaves from the trees and the smoke from early-lit hearths to her nose. It was the right day for Charley to be up on the rooftops, gnawing the end of some sausage jerky as she watched the bustle of high street and a few beyond.

From her perch, Charley couldn't make out the size of the pumpkins growing on the Plunkett farm, but she could see the groups of students out from Hogwarts for the weekend. The sight of them made the urchin think about it before taking another bite of her sausage. Maybe she would save one of them for Beck if she ran into him. Or one to eat in front of him, anyway.

She wasn't expecting the boy's head to make an appearance over the side of the roof just then. Charley stared, mid-bite, her muscles tensed like they wanted to ditch her seat. Except she hadn't done anything wrong yet. The boy wasn't Max, either, but Smelly. Only she didn't call him that to his face, much anymore that is. He must have forgiven her for that somehow, the boy had stuck his face in hers enough since she left Hogwarts.

"Get low Charley!"

The urchin wasn't expecting getting ordered about just then, either, particularly when she wasn't working. Smelly was a friend, though, so at most he just earned himself a glare, her nose wrinkling to pinch her freckles until they grumbled about it, while her hands and knees scrambled to get low against the roof. When only her cap was showing over the peak of it, Charley glanced over to shoot a proper question at the boy, finally taking out the sausage her teeth had clung to the whole time.

"Coppers on yer tail, Smiley? Or's that no-good prefect snitch givin' ya the stinkeye?"

He had no idea who was on his tail. However, his friends must have run for a reason. He doubted even if the place was haunted that a ghost would go as far as his friends had been standing back to say boo.

Shaking his head he said “ No idea, but my friends down there went from joking that I wasn’t brave enough to climb up this haunted building to running. “

He certainly didn’t want to get in trouble on a Hogsmeade weekend. A thought he should have considered before taking on this dare. As he had no idea what his parents would do if he got expelled or embarrassed them somehow greatly. There was always that no one knew of the wizarding world so he could just make up some boarding school transfer, but he knew he was also behind in the more traditional subjects.

Then he said “ Some of them are even Gryffindors which we both knows means they’re braver than me. Thought chivalry could be questioned as they could have shouted something to give me a clue. “ The fact that he’d maneuvered himself even lower lying on the roof to definitely not be seen as he looked towards Charley making his lack of bravery evident.
