History:Though short in his early years, repeated growth spurts at Hogwarts saw Dash top out at a tall, broad six feet and one inch. His dark hair is kept fashionably enough, though he is apt to forego shaving in favour of some research project or another, resulting in almost perpetual stubble. Blue eyes are bespectacled for reading, but otherwise unadorned. Francesca keeps him fashionably dressed, but left to his own devices, he would wear just a shirt and trousers. He does not wear wizarding robes unless he absolutely must, as they are favoured by his father. Dash is left-handed.

December, 1856 Dashwood Hall, Surrey. Christmas morning brings the greatest(?) gift of all, one Langston Bartholomew Prewett Dashwood, a mouthful of names he will never quite live up to simply because he does not wish to. 1858 Lorelei is born. Like Dash and unlike their elder brother, she proves to be a bit of a handful in her earliest years. 1862 Mother dies in childbirth, and to add insult to injury, the child is stillborn. In his grief, Dash’s first act of magic sees him shatter all the windows in the nursery…and that floor of Dashwood Hall. 1863-1868 Always curious in a troublesome sort of way, as he ages, Dash begins to redirect this curiosity in a more productive manner—at least, he views it as such. In reality, the staff probably don’t love that he takes things apart and reassembles them creatively, but #yolo. Augumn 1868 Arriving at Hogwarts, Dash is sorted not with his brother in [house], but into Ravenclaw. Initially, he is put off by how studious all his peers seem to be, but he quickly makes a friend in [some dude] who shares his own brand of curiosity. Almost from the outset, Dash proves to be a gifted and eager student of charms. Autumn 1870 Now in his third year, Dash has added Ancient Runes and Ancient Studies to his course roster. Lorelei joins her brothers at Hogwarts. 1872-1873 Literally no one is surprised when Dash does not receive a prefect’s badge. They are all rather more surprised when he lands Os almost across the board on his OWLs—the D in History of Magic seems more reflective of his general attitudes towards non-preferred academia. Autumn 1873-1877 Now able to focus solely upon the subjects that interest him (Charms, first and foremost, and joined by Transfiguration, Ancient Runes, Potions, and Defence Against the Dark Arts), Dash would have been a model student during his NEWT years, were it not for his habit of talking himself into trouble. He leaves Hogwarts with excellent test results, and goes off with [bestie] to tour the continent for two years. Like Vegas, the friends do not disclose their misadventures during that time.
Also during this window, Father remarries, resulting in Dash’s first half-sibling, Letitia.1877-1880 Dash lives the typical life of the idle rich aspiring rake—sex, inventions, and alcohol. His father, never a Dash fan to begin with, very quickly grows tired of this behaviour, and begins subtly offering up ultimatums, such as, If I ever hear of you entertaining a prostitute in your flat again, you will be back in the nursery with your sisters, and get a job or you’ll live on nothing, the latter of which he took much more seriously. In 1878, he takes on a job in the Department of Magical Education because the Department of Mysteries flat-out refused to hire him. December 1881 His only Christmas gift from Father is a position on the Experimental Charms Committee. More prestigious than his previous purgatory, less work, and in a field that actually interests him, Dash is surprisingly not super bummed about this. That doesn’t stop him from complaining about it to Francesca, though, a woman he has begun to involve himself with. Summer 1881 Dash officially proposes that Francesca become his mistress, a proposition she accepts. With a measure of discretion that is decidedly unlike him, he sets her up with a home in Swallowbury. 1883 In spite of protective measures to the contrary, Francesca finds herself pregnant. With a father nagging him to Settle Down™ and an abundance of affection for the mother-to-be, Dash resolves to marry her and legitimize the bun in her oven.
In what should not have been a surprise, however, Father straight-up threatens to disown and disinherit (far more dire) him if he goes through with it, and so the nuptials never transpire.1884 Early in the new year, Patience is born, named for a quality her father has never been known for. 1887 Godric is born. Francesca and Dash still are not married, and Dash has long since given up discretion where his mistress and children are concerned. Oh, he errs on the side of what’s done as much as necessary to keep his father off his back, but gives decidedly minimal fucks. January 1892 Dash spends the new year at Dashwood Hall at his father’s insistence, where he is told the old man is Possibly Dying and that, if he is not appropriately married at the time of his father’s passing, there will be no inheritance. It is not a festive holiday.
