Appearance:
It could be argued that James was a male version of his sister, were it not for the fact they were born several years apart.
His dark coloured slightly curly hair matches his brown eyes. His skin is fairly pale though the patches under his eyes signify he is often quite tired.
His clothing style is that of the Hogwarts uniform, with which James makes an effort to always ensure it is as well-kept as it can be; a luxury he isn't afforded at his stepmothers. When at home, his clothes are reminiscent of an elves hand-me-downs.
James stands at 5ft. 4in. and uses his right hand. His build is slightly below average due to his stepmothers cruel rule.
History:
Born to Thomas and Rosamund in 1873, James was the youngest of the Grey family - his sister having been born three years prior - and though it was clear there was competition for their parents affections, the family was happy.
They were happy, at least, for two years until a bitter chill came sweeping through London during the Christmas period of 1875. Unfortunately Rosamund passed away leaving Thomas to care for the two children by himself. For a short while he did though it look him not one year to find another spouse and though initially James was happy to have a family again, the welcome relief of home soon wore off.
His two new stepsisters, Ivory and Opal, seemed determined on making Rebecca's life as miserable as it could be. Of course, this was not something James enjoyed seeing and on multiple occasions, James stepped in between his sister and stepsisters, slammed his foot in the ground and demanded they leave Rebecca alone.
His sister had been there for him through everything and she reminded him of his mother; nothing would take her away from him or make her upset.
That was until the strange man came to visit. There was arguing, words thrown around that James didn't quite understand, and eventually - in September of 1884 - the three girls left. James clung to Rebecca for as long as he could; fearing she was being taken away. He didn't care much for Ivory or Opal disappearing though.
The first few months without Rebecca in the house was quiet. With nothing to do, James found himself wandering around aimlessly. He happened upon an old book owned by his mother that had nothing but a symbol of a strange looking cross on it. His father quickly pried it from James' hands and that was it.
The noise returned during the winter holidays and James was told all about Rebecca's time at Hogwarts. It sounded so magical and wonderful! She had been sorted into Slytherin which was, from James' understanding, one of the houses whose mascot was a snake. Maybe he could go there one day! Maybe not. It was, apparently, a school for witches and wizards only - of which, James certainly was not.
That summer changed everything for James. Both for the worse and better.
The bad was a sudden illness took his father by surprise and though he fought to overcome the illness, Thomas ultimately succumbed and passed. This was too much for James and he started to recline into himself.
During February of 1884, whilst Rebecca was at school, Charity was making James clean the floor of the house with the smallest brush she could find. Whilst this was going on, Charity happened upon the possessions left behind by her late husband and made a nasty comment about religious zealots and his mother getting what she deserved.
Something changed in James in that moment and no sooner had he looked up, about to shout, had the book caught fire.
James started at Hogwarts that September and was sorted into Gryffindor - which disappointed James a little as he wanted to be with his sister.
His Hogwarts years were a much welcome diversion from home and he got to spend time with his sister, with whom he regularly clung to when not in class. James had come to enjoy the game of Wizarding Chess and often played his sister. He'd also taken a liking to Quidditch though knew he could never play - both the Grey siblings were told there was no money for them to stay past their fifth year.
Rebecca's fifth year came and went and she stayed home as James went back to school. Upon returning home for the summer holidays, it became clear Rebecca had left. James felt neglected, hurt, and abandoned. The one thing left in his life had gone.
He managed to meet up with her during the summer of 1887 and though he still felt abandoned and had to hold back tears, he could see the happiness in her eyes and that alone was more than enough for James.
Whilst meeting with his sister, James catches glimpse of the symbol from his mother's book and takes it upon himself to learn more.
Adamant he will stay past his OWLs, James is now balancing school work, raising money through various chores and such (such as doing people's homework for them), and investigating this weird church.
The Church of Magical Jesus.
