Personality:The Case of the Dashing Detective
1867 An afterthought, really. A particularly stormy night saw the aptly named Tempest and Maelstrom vacate their mother's womb in Brighton. The smaller, second, and unexpected twin, Maelstrom suffers early health problems that his father would later insist were a portent, but which are merely Stressful in the moment. 1867 - 1873 Theirs is an altogether boring childhood, punctuated by the arrival of a brother, Gale, on a windy day (even at three and a half, Mael is beginning to notice a trend here). Their father and mother operate a small bakery, though their father seems far more interested in the stories of sailors than anything that happens at home. 1873 - Autumn 1879 It is no surprise when Tempest beats her brother to a first sign of magic. It is more surprising when Gale does. It is the final nail in the coffin when baby Solaris (born on a bright and sunny day, if you were wondering) exhibits her own at only three. It is now that Peter begins to insist that Maelstrom must be a squib, and while not nearly as accusatory as her husband, Marion reluctantly agrees, sitting Mael down and explaining what this means. All this is confirmed in the summer of '79, when a Hogwarts letter arrives for Tempest but not her brother. It is a tearful separation when she leaves for school Autumn 1879 - Summer 1884 The Stagnant Years, Mael thinks of them, as his siblings go off in turn to begin at Hogwarts and he works in the bakery with his parents and little Solaris. He proves to have an excellent head for numbers, recording orders in crisp, neat handwriting, and an ease with customers, though lack of fulfillment sees him get into trouble with some of the Local Youths. Though his life is Fine, He Supposes, that it is so removed from that led by Tempest and Gale sees a wedge driven between him and his siblings, not one ever acknowledged but one felt when they are home for summer holidays. He would never admit it, but he is deeply jealous.
Things take a sharp turn in the summer of 1884, when Maelstrom is the only member of his household not to contract the Laughing Plague. Though Tempest's case, as well as that of their father, is quite mild, their younger siblings grow ill indeed and their mother perishes—a tragic catalyst for reconciliation between the twins.Spring 1885 A sixth year, Tempest shocks her family when she is expelled from Hogwarts. They learn after the fact that she had been developing inventions (and experimental spells) and that one of her projects had cost a classmate the use of their arms. Well, their arms altogether. (She does not rate it a success). She returns home to Brighton, and it seems that this is the final straw for Peter, never much of a parent: he boards a ship and is never heard from again.
1887 - 1890 Gale returns home after completing his OWLs and joins his siblings at the bakery. While the twins have no real gift or passion for baking, Gale proves to be a wizard at it, and after a couple of years, the business is all but left to him to manage. Instead, the twins are able to pursue their own passions: invention for Tempest, and puzzles for Maelstrom.
1890 - Present The two open a small investigation business in London, using Mael's inheritance from their newly passed maternal granfather as startup money. It is not glamourous work but it is certainly interesting, and they take to their roles like ducks to water.
Other:CHARISMATIC — CLEVER — EYE FOR DETAIL — A BIT MOUTHY — LOYAL — DADDY ISSUES — MAGIC ISSUES
SKILLS:
- Languages: English
- Good in a knife fight. Thinks he’s better at fisticuffs than he is.
- Though not a wizard in any other sense, is prolific when it comes to chess and card games.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE: Mael has a number of objects crafted by his sister for his particular use. Most of them are, at best, grey in their legality. They include:
- Master Key: This key opens all simple, non-magical locks—though occasionally jams at inopportune times.
- The Seer: Mael thinks he looks quite dashing in this monocle, which allows him to see enchantments when worn—but gives him a dreadful migraine if used too much.
- A Wand!: Not a real wand; really, his sister calls it a "shield stick". Essentially, if used correctly, it can produce a minor shield charm. If used in correctly, can start a small fire in its holster. It is mostly used to make it look as though he has magic even though he Does Not.
- Potion Grenades: Small vials of potions for things like smokescreens and corrosions, worn on a belt for more high stakes cases. He accidentally threw one too close to himself once and it ate through his boot, so Mael uses them sparingly.
TRIVIA:Sample Roleplay Post:

- Blacklisted from a number of disreputable card circles for counting.

- Carries a pistol, but is at best a mediocre shot.
- Afraid of cats. Not like, screaming terrified, but they make him decidedly uneasy.
