The Modiste
#1
In-Character
Full Name: The main subject's name is Honorine Parmentier, however most people refer to the main subject as "The Modiste," which has slowly caught on as a name for the entire painting.
Painted In: 1825
Location: The portrait hangs in Hogwarts, in the hallway leading to the library. Three copies exist. Two are located in London; one in the Ministry of Magic, the other in the Magical Portrait Gallery of England. The third copy is located in Hogsmeade, in the Painted Lady tea room.
Hung In: 1882 (handed over to Hogwarts by Lytton House, who more or less begged Hogwarts to take her off their hands after she trash-talked the Lytton designs to customers one too many times)
Occupation: Fashion designer
Physical Description: The Modiste, dressed in the latest fashions, is the central subject of the painting. In immediate proximity to The Modiste, we see a model, standing in front of a mirror, wearing a dress which is not quite finished yet. The two seem to be involved in a fitting. This scene is set against a backdrop of The Modiste's workshop. While some features of the background - mannequins, a spanish wall and several pieces of fabric strewn around the room - are more obvious, many smaller, more intricate details can be observed upon closer inspection, such as feathers, drawings of designs, accessories and the like.
Personality: The Modiste is quite brash and brazen. Her favourite pastime is to ciriticize the fashion choices of anyone who passes by the portrait, as well as of other portraits she goes to visit (and she rarely has a kind word to say when it comes to such discussions and is most definitely not a friend of the Hogwarts uniforms). She does not seem to get along too well with the model she is currently fitting for a dress, either, and the two are more or less constantly bickering. When not speaking about fashion, she is at least somewhat pleasant, although still very commanding. Occasionally, she may ask other portraits to bring her a cup of tea or a glass of cognac.
Other: The main subject is a French-born witch who is a well-known fashion designer among British wizardkind and currently still alive.
Sample Roleplay Post:

It was a brisk spring morning, the first rays of sunshine had just found their way from the skies into the 2nd floor corridor and The Modiste had just finished her first cup of tea for the day. Perfectly awake, attent and suitably caffeinated (if such a state is even in the cards for a witch - or rather the likeness of a witch - inhabiting a painting), she was ready to do what she always did - impart her skill and knowledge of fashion onto unuspecting passers-by. Whether this advice was solicited or not (and a vast majority of the time, it was not) was of no importance to her, as it was, in her opinion, certainly needed.

"My dear boy, please tuck in your shirt! How will you ever find a wife looking like that?! By Merlin, young lady, will you not fix the bows in your hair?! Your coiffure is an affront to my eyes! If I were a professor, I'd send you all to detention for poor taste!" she berated the students passing by, probably trying to squeeze some early-morning studying into their already stressful schoolday. The Modiste knew they were stressed, but they certainly didn't have to look disheveled! As she shrieked particularly loudly at a student who had purposefuly tried to avoid her field of view or was hoping she'd be busy berating another, the librarian of the Hogwarts library peeked through the portal to the library, located just a stone's throw away from The Modiste's spot, shushing her loudly. "Oh, good morning, Madame! A piece of advice for you as well, ma chérie; if you don't have the looks, stick to your books!" she retaliated with a big fake smile, blowing the librarian a kiss as they retreated back into the library with a scowl.

Thank Merlin she was merely a portrait and had to fear little to no consequences for such behaviour; what are they going to do, hang her up somewhere else? She'll just impart her advice there, long enough for all of Hogwarts to hear!
