Appearance: Standing just slightly taller than her cousin Adella at 5'2", Lucinda has the light Beauregard features. Her hair is a sandy color and her eyes are a warm brown. Her features are soft, and she has a heart-shaped face with full lips. She is a naturally expressive creature, and has no poker face to speak of. Her hair is naturally wavy and falls past her shoulders, although she usually keeps it in a fashionable up-do. Although she previously had very slender curves, Lucinda filled out somewhat following the birth of her daughter.
Desperate not to be read as new money, Lucinda still dresses on the cusp of the latest fashions, mostly in soft blue colors. She is right-handed.
History:
Lucinda is born in 1863, scarcely a month after her cousin Adella and a little over a year after her parents were married. A stubborn, precocious child, she is far less agreeable than her cousin-and-consistent-playmate.
1866 brings a brother, Sebastian, who is periodically bullied by toddler Luce. She has mellowed considerably by the time the pair are joined by a final sister, Phoebe, in 1868. That's the same year as Luce demonstrates magic, making a table levitate in an attempt to assert her tiny will. Her parents mostly think it's funny.
Although she still stays stubborn, Lucinda becomes much easier to deal with throughout her childhood,
although she remains a precocious young girl who is determined to get her own way.
Lucinda leaves for Hogwarts in 1874, and shocks no one at all when she's sorted into Slytherin. After sassing a professor a little too much, Lucinda is assigned to detention, which she shares with a Miss Ruth Grimstone. Although on paper very different people, the two swiftly become best friends and borderline terrors.
Luce picks Divination and Earth Magic as her electives in 1876. An engaged, enthusiastic student, Luce was involved in her classes and in clubs on campus. Although never a Quidditch player, she could be counted on to attend every game with a string of snarky commentary. What starts as a passive interest in her first year - Ruth is obsessed with Quidditch, after all - swiftly becomes real interest.
After her OWLs (79) Luce continued with NEWTs in Charms, Potions, DADA, and Transfiguration. Slight financial distress on her father's part - nothing that means they're at risk of dropping a class, but enough that Luce knows - means that she can't afford a particularly fancy debut, and Luce begins to think about 1) gold digging and 2) a job.
She ends up going for the latter. After getting her NEWTs in 1881, Lucinda is hired on as personal assistant to Thom Pettigrew.
Mr. Pettigrew is not only the sponsor of Quidditch team Puddlemere United; he's also an entrepreneur and owner of Quality Quaffle and Snitch. What this means, in short, is that Lucinda is deep in the Quidditch industry, handling whatever bitchwork tasks Mr. Pettigrew sees fit to give her. Dealing with foreign business contacts - she develops an involuntary eye twitch at the mention of Yemen - has a cheerful side effect of travel.
She gets quite good at on the fly Quidditch predictions, staying up to date on all things to do with the season, and dealing with rowdy/annoying players. Her deadpan stare is perfected. And if she gets to guess a little bit more about Mr. Pettigrew's personal life than she really wanted to over the years, well - that's none of her business. And she doesn't really like Mrs. Chastity Pettigrew very much, anyways.
Probably Lucinda would have happily become a spinster, but she meets Mr. Wesley Cavanaugh at a Quidditch function in 1882. A steady stream of banter becomes a courtship at the end of 1883. Around the same time, Luce is trying to manage/meddle in her best friend's relationship with Cannons player Mr. Magnus Lockhart, striking up a pen pal friendship with him. When Ruth marries Mr. Lockhart that same year, Lucinda is immensely pleased with herself.
At the end of 1884, Luce is very happy to marry Mr. Cavanaugh, launching herself into the upper class. The one bad part of this is that she has to leave her job.
1885 brings with it the arrival of Tulip Birgit Cavanaugh, Lucinda's daughter. Before her confinement, Lucinda tries to get used to living upper class instead of just working around them, which can be a little difficult. She still feels at her best at Quidditch parties.
In 1886 Adella marries Mr. Calendar. This is also the start of a serious drinking problem on Wesley's part, which comes to a head in 1887. The Cavanaughs have a blow-out fight and Lucinda stays with the Lockharts in Irvingly for a few days, before finally returning and deciding to stick it out. Not that she has very many other options as a VE woman, but she also wants to stay with Wesley.
(Also, she's mad at Thom because she found him in a compromising position with Ursula Black, and now he's married to Luce's friend Hannah.)
Wes gives up drinking but is now in a wheelchair, and although it earns him the side-eye, Lucinda's just pleased to have her husband back.
