History:
The youngest of them, I was born - like many of my siblings - on the night of Friday the 13th. The only one in 1875. As superstitious as Mother is, this is surely another nail in the coffin. It is an interesting childhood for sure. Mama always had to have things just so. You could tell which of us came where in the birth order just by our names - I, being seventh, was Felicity while my sister before me was Eurydice. Because of Mama, we grew up lacking the convention of privacy. There were oftentimes more nannies than children and from the moment of our birth, a house elf was assigned that followed us everywhere, reporting our every location back to mother. Mama even had a pocket watch that didn’t tell time but rather told where each of us was - down the very room in the house. Our siblings were our closest friends as we weren’t permitted friends outside the house.

The year of my tenth birthday sees D - to my envy - getting to spend the entire school semester in Europe! as one of Mandira’s representatives in the Panmagical games. But good news always comes with bad news and Concordia’s intended is killed in a landslide.
Perhaps that being the youngest and thus the one with the most exposure to our mother in her most extreme is why I turned out the most superstitious. Or maybe my birth order had absolutely nothing to deal with and was entirely left in the hands of another factor: my invitation to Mandira never came, confirming Mama’s fears. It is utterly devastating and it feels like my only chance at freedom slipping away. I think each of us longed for the day we could go to Mandira. And that is what really upsets me in the moment is not that I am not a witch - though that acceptance does hit later - but that I am to remain home with Mama and Papa with no outside contact.

To make matters worse, Mama becomes even worse when Eury puts on a bangle that isn’t hers resulting in a curse that no amount of money or expertise seems to be able to lift. Eury doesn’t speak right after the whole thing and she’s left with a mark upon her write where the bangle once rested before it was sucked into her arm. But even still, Eury gets to go back to school and I am to face my new future with only Mama, Papa, A., and the house elves for company.

The next years are hard but with Mama my constant companion, we are close even when I wish I might have friends - even just the neighbors down the lane. It becomes a bit easier when, three years later, Papa allows Eury to stay home from school after it proves her curse makes it just too difficult. I say easier but that is a bit of a lie. With Eury home, I see how much her curse impacts her and for the first time, I find myself wishing that I had put on the bangle instead. What difference would it have made for me to be cursed and spitting gibberish? After all, I never leave the house. I was the one with no friends. Eury had a life and a chance before her curse. I never did.

With no hope of my magical skills and blood drawing a husband, I beg Mama to find the best governess she can find to teach me the womanly arts in hopes that maybe if I am proficient enough in things like the fortepiano, sewing, and languages than maybe I can compensate for my lacking. Maybe?

With all six of my siblings now back home and the luck of our family, there proves to never be a quiet year. Or moment. D. nearly loses his arm in an exploding snap accident (and Papa banning the game), Concordia’s second intended (this one who I’m fairly certain she actually loved) dies after a snake bite, and B. nearly dies after falling off a flying carpet in yet another one of his losing races. And then Concordia’s third intended (who honestly, was absent enough I often forgot about him) died from cholera. I was really starting to worry about Concordia after all this. All of us really. Maybe Mama is right. Maybe our whole family is cursed not just Eurydice. They all tell me I’m crazy but I think Mama is glad to have someone who sees it like she does.

But then the worst possible thing happened. Even worse than Eury’s affliction. Mama gets sick. Cholera just like Concordia’s intended. And just like him, Mama doesn’t make it. My constant companion throughout my entire life now just gone. All the others seem so… unphased. They bask in the fact they are no longer watched all the time. But I don’t know what to do with myself now that I don’t have Mama watching over me. Technically I am free now. Just like Mandira would have let me be. Like it let my siblings be. But I’ve never had a taste of freedom in sixteen years and I don’t know what to do with it. So I… do nothing until the tides of fate pick me up and spit me out on England’s shores.

Concordia finally reaches the altar during the holiday season of ‘93 and during her honeymoon to Europe, she visits with our aunt - Mama’s sister. And I suppose it reminded her of our existence. Papa tells us that she wrote to him with an offer - she will sponsor both Eury and myself for the upcoming English season as Papa has clearly been neglecting us since Mama’s passing.

I’m scared. The idea of suddenly going from rarely leaving the house to a whole other country where I know no one is terrifying. I want to say no but Papa says yes and our trunks were packed. But as time passes and I think about the idea, the more it starts to grow on me. It really isn’t that strange. It is Mama and Papa’s homeland. And Auntie is offering us a whole new start. One where I might still find a match and no one knows of Eury’s curse. And I do have all that training the governess gave me. I’d make an explementary wife.

April arrives and here we are. In Europe. In Scotland - a small town called Ivringly to be precise. But apparently, Papa didn’t tell Auntie about Eury’s curse or me being a squib because she seemed quite surprised to find out.
Personality:
  • Eager to please, she is quick to say yes to anything asked if her in hopes of fitting in and being accepted. Often without thinking about the construction that may come.
  • Superstitious, she is prone to stress if something keeps her from following something out. She often carries around and even gifts good luck charms and makes decisions based on her fortune telling.
  • Cheerful and optimistic, Felicity comes across as someone who can find the bright side to every situation and rarely takes anything personally.
  • Insecure, contrary to how she presents, she is highly uneasy in social situations due to her lack of experience. Having only interacted with her family and the servants, she is constantly paranoid she might misstep or come across as odd. Or say something about her sister. Or worse, that someone might figure out she's a squib (... when her aunt seemed so upset to find out she was).
