Competent is not a word usually used to describe one’s appearance, but it suits Atalanta surprisingly well. It is evident in her strong posture, the way she talks clearly and evenly, the steadiness of her hands, and her notable height of five feet, seven inches. She is a woman who radiates calm and sureness, a boon to patients and family alike.History:
Atty always most resembled her father, with a stronger jaw and brown eyes. The years—some more taxing than others—have left their mark upon her. Silver-white strands of hair have made their appearance, lightening her girlhood blonde locks. Soft lines around her eyes and mouth are trophies earned from a near six decades of being and the fact that she smiles easily. She is equally comfortable in her hospital robes and the attire that society requests of her, though has long since abandoned corsets for the less fashionable jumps. Atalanta is right handed.
Her PB is Eve Best.
Personality:Timeline
1834 - 1846 The year is very much on its way out when Atalanta is born, the first—but not the last—born to the Notts, a wealthy and vaguely purist family. In the coming years, she is joined in the nursery by two sisters and a brother, and the Nott siblings have a decidedly uneventful childhood. Autumn 1846 - Summer 1848 As is usually the way with these sorts of things, eleven-year-old Atalanta departs for Hogwarts, where she is placed into Gryffindor. It is there she meets the girl who would remain her dearest friend in the decades to come, bonding over shared uncomfortable looks as one of their new dormmates begins sobbing out of homesickness. Atalanta proves to be a deft student, particularly in Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts. Autumn 1848 - Summer 1851 As a third year, she adds Ancient Runes and Muggle Studies to her course offerings. In the latter, she is fascinated by how muggles treat various ailments.
The summer before her fifth year brings with it a prefect’s badge, surprising no one but Atty herself.
Her fifth year concludes with the writing of her O.W.L.s, on which she does quite well.Autumn 1851 - Spring 1853 When Atalanta returns to Hogwarts for her higher-level studies, she enrolls in Charms, Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Potions—all the courses required of a healer. She adds Ancient Runes to their number as well. By now she has decided that medicine is her future, and she and [Bestie] have both pledged to become Career Women… 1853 - 1855 ...so naturally Atalanta graduates and goes straight into The Season. Someone of her station working is a pipe dream; she would never have gone against her father when it came down to it. Her first season sees a serious-on-his-part proposal that she seriously-turns-down, but it is in her second season that she meets him.
Rupert Hart is not the sort of person that her mother would steer her towards, owing to his own muggleborn grandparents. It is, however, as close to love at first meeting as one can reasonably hope to find outside of fairy tales, making it a substantial blow when his request to marry her is rebuffed by her father.
So she cries to her mother that she’s pregnant and the knot is swiftly tied early in 1855, and her parents look at her sideways when she does not actually show or deliver a baby but by then they’ve actively warmed up to Rupert. Yay!1856 Atalanta does deliver a baby, a daughter called Melinda. 1858 Atty likes being a socialite and likes being a mother, but finds both roles fit her like borrowed gloves: close, but not quite right. A few years ‘late’ by most measures, she rather shocks society by reporting to St. Mungo’s as a trainee healer. 1859 - 1863 Her time learning the ropes in Spell Damage is rather fragmented by the arrival of Rupert II, the usual two years stretched to three and a half. In spite of the challenge, or perhaps because of it, Atty finds herself thriving in the unconventional life she has carved out for herself. 1863 - 1870 A fully-fledged healer, Atalanta devotes herself to her family and her profession in equal measure. During this time, she is blessed with additional children Gregory and Beatrice. 1870 - 1872 Dragon pox is not always fatal, but it proves to be in her father’s case.
this brush with magical ailment sparks a shift in Atalanta, who gives up the comfort of seniority for a fresh start learning the ropes in Magical Bugs.1873-1885 Life marches on, children (Honour and Simeon) are born, and Atalanta is a full healer in the Magical Bugs division.
This is quite the eventful place to be in 1884, when the Laughing Plague strikes Britain. Atty all but lives in the hospital, tending to the sick, and in what spare time she can muster, tries to uncover some sort of inoculation as well.
Her hard work during this time is rewarded with a promotion to Healer-in-Charge, neatly leapfrogging the Assistant Head position.1891 The worst day of her life. She will not discuss it, but it leaves its metaphorical mark upon her. 1892 - Present Atty remains a loving mother and grandmother, a dedicated healer, a good-natured aunt, and even an occasional presence in society—though much of the last she leaves up to her sister instead.
