Appearance:
General |
Cursed with blazing red hair, Lydie tends to wear it in neatly arranged updos. She stands at a perfectly respectable five feet four inches and has maintained a slender, but slightly curvy frame that she accentuates with tightly laced corsets. Lydie has gray-blue eyes and carries her wand in her left hand.

Fashion | It took a few experiments on older gowns, but Lydie slowly established a color palette for her gowns that she felt most comfortable in. She prefers bright and saturated colors, jewel tones especially, and avoids anything resembling a pastel. Her gowns are reused time and time again, but are charmed to look different in either color or pattern, but those familiar with her family’s financial strains would likely realize this. Otherwise, Lydie does her best to maintain the most current fashions.

History:
A Centered Title
1873-76Tranquility Lydia Gambol is born on a dewy spring morning in late April. She is the first of the Gambol children to be named by a naming seer and is given a rather well fitting name. At least for the first short while of her life.

Prosper and Harmony follow soon after. While Lydie, as her mother warmly nicknames her, doesn’t quite enjoy the shift of affection at first (in fact, there are days where she’s anything but tranquil about the additions) she soon comes to love her siblings and the playmates they become.
1878The loss of Gabol Grove hits Lydie hard, namely due to the arguments she overhears between her parents. She doesn’t understand much of what they’re shouting, but she does know enough to realize something is truly wrong. It’s during one of these arguments that Lydie has her first outburst of magic, for she falls into the room she was eavesdropping near and magically silences both her parents. It takes two hours for the outburst to fade enough for them to be able to manage a whisper again, and when they do it’s harsh words aimed at her for listening to conversations she has no part in.
1879-84Egg (or Benedict, as he’s eventually renamed) and Serendipity eventually join their family. Lydie welcomes them into the brood like a rightful mother hen, fussing over Serendipity especially for the few years she remains at home before school begins.
1884-89
OWL Years
Her first few years of school prove to be both an immense challenge and joy for Lydie. For while she succeeds in most of her classes and making new friends, her home life is uprooted once again, this time to Wellingtonshire, Hogsmeade. She supposedly will love the new house, or so her mother pretends in a letter, but Lydie hears the rumors of who died in that plague ridden house and how it must be plagued by ghosts. Weeks of bickering letters lead to Lydie’s absolute refusal to return to her family for the Christmas holidays.

Eventually though, as all children must abide by the law of their parents, she goes to the cursed Wellingtonshire house that summer and carries on life as usual. Her next few years of schooling fly by in a blink of coursework, magic and blossoming friendships.
1889-1890
Sixth Year
After achieving decent marks on her OWL exams, Lydie decides to continue with her favorite four classes: Charms, Divination, Potions and Transfiguration.
Summer, 1890This summer proves to be the worst one of her life. Lydie has been aware of her parents’ money woes for some time, but she never knew them to be this severe. The movers are hired in early July, the house she’d come to (begrudgingly) tolerate sold beneath their feet, and they’re now moving to Bartonburg. It’s then that Lydie swears never to marry a man that’s anything like her father.
1890-91
Seventh Year
Returning to school for her final year is both a blessing and a curse. For while, her academic pursuits distracts from the horrors of her home life, her peers are keen to remind her at every available opportunity. Lydie spends the majority of the year hiding wherever she finds the opportunity to and burying her head in her books. By the time her tests come around, Lydie is ready and eager for her school life to finally be over and to (perhaps) put some space between herself and the comments.
1891
Except, there is no space because her first season out is marred by the family’s obvious money woes. The move is still heavily commented upon, as is her lack of excess finery. It’s obvious to any man who observes her that while Lydie is pretty and a well trained debutante, she doesn’t come from a family that will provide a generous dowry. Still, she tries. She flirts and dances and does what any other debutante ought to do. None of it works though and she spends the majority of that winter plotting how to better present herself for the following year.
1892-93
Her second and third seasons are rather lackluster. There are very few eligible bachelors with whom she can truly envision a future with, and even fewer gentlemen that call upon her. Lydie often feels the claws of desperation creeping up her neck, tempting her towards impropriety in the hopes of trapping a man. Those impulses are just as soon squashed, for she isn’t that needy yet
1894
The warmer weather brings about her fourth season on the Marriage Mart, and with it her last season of being able to fully participate. During a rather frank and incredibly distressing conversation with her mother, Lydie is fully informed of just how dire their finances are and how the support will be shifted to Franny come 1895. It’s now or never if she’s to find a successful marriage.
