Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
Your letter in Witch Weekly caught my attention! I can find myself overwhelmed at parties, and the idea of making an acquaintanceship via letters is very appealing to me. If you do not like large social gatherings, what are your favorite places to be?
Witch Weekly is pleased to inform you that your recent submission to our Lonely Hearts article has generated a response. Witch Weekly is devoted to providing help to all of our readers, no matter what their social disadvantages, and we are delighted to provide this service to the lovelorn in our magical community. We hope that you will be able to create a happy ending with our help, instead of being doomed to a tragically lonely life.
Please see the enclosed letter and advise us whether you will need your advertisement repeated in further issues of our magazine.
My three favorite places to be:
1. Anywhere, with a good book at hand and the solitude to read it;
2. the London Museum during the afternoons;
3. a bench by the lake at Padmore Park.
What about you? And may I ask what it is exactly about social gatherings that you find overwhelming?
Gratefully,
G

Oscar had to contemplate Bea in order to adequately reply to the letter from the very-shy G.
G,
I also enjoy the London museum! My occupation gives me not-infrequent cause to go there. The exhibits are fascinating. My three favorite places are:
1. The study of my home
2. The Magical Portrait Gallery
3. The club I am a member of
I find social gatherings overwhelming when I am not sure what others expect of me at them; it feels as if I am performing, but I do not know the feedback on which I am being evaluated.
The club you're a member at? Ford thought incredulously on reading the letter, before remembering that in this scenario he was writing as the woman.

Dear Similarly-Minded,
I know precisely what you mean, though perhaps for the opposite reasons; I grew up being told all of the things young women in society are evaluated on and now trying to meet all of these expectations feels... staggering, sometimes.
What did you think of the watercolor exhibit that just finished in the portrait gallery?

I hope that you & your family are safe after the horrible incidents in London the other day. It feels difficult to circle back to your question on the Portrait Gallery now, but to answer it despite this: I very much enjoyed the watercolor exhibit, which I attended with one of my elder siblings.
