I need a favor. I'm assuming you'll be at the wedding reception on Wednesday? It's very important that I don't end up talking to Macnair alone. He'll try to corner me and he may even make some excuse to pull me aside. If you see us together please come interrupt us. If it happens too often I'll pretend to be sick and leave early but I'm hoping he'll get discouraged and give up.

I'll owe you forever if you can get me through the seventh without having to talk to him. Thanks in advance.

Sure, I can do that. I'm glad you'll be there, these things are always so boring.

For what it's worth — and maybe this is going to make me sound like a hypocrite, given that we're friends — I tend to recommend staying away from the men in my family. Which is what you're trying to do, I suppose, but — for what it's worth.

Well, that can't be a hard rule. If I stayed away from all of them, I wouldn't be friends with you. But anyway, I'm certainly not planning to take any of the rest of them to haunted houses in Ireland.
