Situation Normal: All Fucked Up - Justin Ross - April 17, 2021
April 16th, 1891
Mr. Department Head + Mr. Brownhill
I will require 1-2 competent MA&C employees who can meet the Voyager at the magical dock in Portsmouth on the 18th (time pending) to assist with repairs to the ship. Discretion is of the utmost importance and they should not have family or close notable friends who either went missing on the Santa Antonina or assisted in rescue efforts. Please advise.
Regards,
Minister J. L. Ross

There appears to be a sea monster between here and Portugal attacking our ships. Would appreciate your expertise in dealing with this.
Please also inform me of 1-2 competent employees who can meet the Voyager at the magical dock in Portsmouth on the 18th (time pending) to assist with repairs to the ship. Discretion is of the utmost importance and they should not have family or close notable friends who either went missing on the Santa Antonina or assisted in rescue efforts.

I will require immediate communication with the Portugese minister of magic regarding ongoing issues with international waters and our ships. Mrs. Skeeter has been looped in as there is a 'creature' aspect to this. Please advise at your earliest convenience; I am hoping to resolve this as painlessly and immediately as possible.

Minister Ross,
Unfortunately, your request is something of a tall order. You may be aware that nearly half our department assisted with rescue efforts in some capacity, and those who did not were either already identified to have a conflict of interest or were too junior to be considered particularly useful (this is excepting the Muggle Liaison Office, of course, but I doubt they are the type of assistance you require for repairing a ship). I believe Jesse Hatchitt would fit your description, but it would be a large burden for our department to lose him for any significant period of time as I've no ready replacement for him, even temporarily, as Squad Head for Magical Reversal.
With your permission, perhaps I can meet the ship myself on Sunday, determine what degree of magical proficiency is required and assign appropriate personnel first thing on Monday morning? One of our more junior employees may suit the purpose, but it's difficult to say from your letter alone. If we need to send Hatchitt we can, but this would at least buy us a little time to restructure Magical Reversal for the duration of his absence.
Most Sincerely,
W. Brownhill

Minister,
If you'll pardon the suggestion, it might behoove you to dispatch Mr. Macmillan to Portugal in person, with one or two of my own employees to serve as his aides. He is in a unique position to understand the finesse of international relations (due to his previous post within my own department) while bringing with him the gravitas of the Minister's own office.
Regardless, please find attached a drafted memo to my Portuguese counterpart; I will have it dispatched in haste with your approval.

Minister,
Mister MacFusty will be at your disposal as soon as I can get a message to him. I'm quite sure his expertise with beasts on the larger end of the scale make him the best man for the job and to the best of my knowledge he does not have a connection to the ship despite his family being [scratched out]
As to the repairs I would recommend Miss Goyle for competence and Mr Scamander for enthusiasm.

Mr. Brownhill
This seems an excellent compromise under what I recognize is a tall order; if you could meet the Voyager at noon tomorrow that would be excellent.

I approve your attached correspondence; please send at your earliest convenience. I agree with your suggestion to send Mr. Macmillan — assuming Portugal approves, I will send him alongside your chosen individuals as soon as possible.
Excellent, let us send those three at noon tomorrow and expect they may be involved for a few days. I suspect we may need them, too much of MA&C is related to one another or to cruise victims.
Can we chat on Monday morning about sea creatures and what to do re: Portugal?
